Another 4 odd movies, and I ask you, My Lot - what did I just watch? So MyLot, I thought I would tell you about 4 somewhat odd movies I have recently had the pleasure no matter how questionable that pleasure may be. lol. So in no particular order the movies are "Throw Mama From the Train", "Senseless", "The Animal", and "Happytime Murders". As usual - spoilers are possible... so read with caution. So I will start with (probably) the oldest (1987) and least strange of them- ** "Throw Mama From The Train" featuring Danny DeVito and Billy Crystal. ** Billy Crystal's character - Larry, is a frustrated novelist who is teaching a creative writing class, And Danny DeVito as Owen, is a student in Larry's class. The reason Larry is frustrated - is because his ex-wife stole his idea for a novel and became rich and famous from it. Larry frequently has loud outbursts about this fact. Owen lives at home with his mom who is angry, demanding, controlling and mean. Larry wants a way out. After a late night conversation where Larry gives Owen some advice about the class - Owen gets an idea. Owen will "get rid of" Larry's problematic Ex-wife and Larry will "get rid of" Owen's mean momma... except for Larry isn't so keen on the idea... straight away. While it is somewhat predictable - it is still an enjoyable watch even with a couple of surprising touching moments in it. **Up next we have "The Animal" featuring Rob Schneider. ** This was mostly tolerable because I had it on as background noise while I was doing something else. Probably My Lotting. lol. Alright, so the premise is Rob Schneider's lovable chump character is working as a janitor and trying to catch the eye of a pretty lady who loves dogs. Well Rob gets in an accident and needs emergency surgery to save his life. The problem? He is transplanted with animal parts by a crazy scientist who uses Rob as fodder for a secret experiment. All is well for a short time, but then Rob is unable to control some of the animalistic behaviors he starts exhibiting. It's as ridiculous as it sounds. 3 guesses how it goes with dog lover lady. **Similar to "The Animal", we have "Senseless" with David Spade and Marlon Wayans. ** Marlon is a hard working economics student vying against spoiled, bratty David for the prestigious spot as Junior Analyst at some stuffy financial company. The opportunity is only offered to the best and brightest so Marlon needs to up his game. He becomes interested in an opportunity to trial a drug. Initially interested in money, Marlon discovers that the drug heightens all of his senses into "super senses" which he uses to foil David and gain some foothold with the bigwigs at fancy schmancy financial company. So - he decides to double the dose of the trial medicine before the big test - what could go wrong? Again this is mostly watchable as background. **Finally we have the newest, "Happytime Murders" with Melissa McCarthy. ** Muppet styled puppets live among people. Inspite of their cheery and entertaining natures they are treated as second rate citizens, driving them into lives of despair. Just because this movie has puppets in it, this is not a kid friendly movie. It's rated R , rightfully so since it has a lot of adult content in it. There is a mystery story to it , somewhat. Someone is killing off the cast members of an old show called "Happytime". Leave it to Puppet private investigator Phil , and Melissa McCarthy's tough cop character. McCarthy is funny, but not quite at her best. The puppets are colorful, well done and interesting... but this film had so much potential and it feels like it falls short by re-hashing the same old jokes over and over and a fairly easy to figure out mystery. I looked high and low to find a not R-rated video - and this review isn't too offensive. : do you think puppet/live action movies have a future? Have you seen any of these movies?
A very raunchy, very funny film noir about why puppets - and puppeteers - deserve to be taken seriously. The Happytime Murders Red Band Exclusive Trailer (20...

These all sound pretty interesting. I have heard of the last one, but not sure it is one I would see even though I am a fan of her work usually.

Ah yeah, she was funny in it - though not at her finest. I think they could have done a lot better

Throw Mamma from the Train was a good one. Danny DeVito and Billy Crystal had great chemistry and mamma was perfectly cast. Her raspy voice was due to throat cancer treatment she was undergoing at the time. Her performance was the best of her acting career culminating in a Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The other movies I did not see but I did like Melissa McCarthy in the movie "Spy." And yes, very funny!

I really liked DeVito's very earnest "Owen". I thought Anne Ramsey as "mama" was excellent. She was scary. Poor lady though, having to go through those treatments. Melissa McCarthy is a favorite of mine. I liked "Identity Theft" and "The Heat"

I am curious about the movie senseless. I wonder if there would be some superpower involved in the end.
