Viva Las Vegas.

I just read a very sad report about Las Vegas. It seems that what I experiences the 2 times I was there over 20 years ago is not there any longer. When I went the first time, we played with coins and chips. So that when we won, we could see that coins fill the machine and we would take them and place them in a paper cup. I felt rich with a half filled cup of 1 cent coins At the roulette, we played with chips. And I saved the bigger ones to change them for real money. At some time we got hungry. And there was always a wonderful and very inexpensive restaurant in each casino where we would eat all we wanted. Now it seems that Las Vegas has so many tourists that everything you do means staying in a long line waiting for your turn. And restaurants and hotels are not inexpensive any longer. Pity. Is it that more people have money for outings or is it that the population has doubled in 20 years? Do you go to Las Vegas once in a while? What is your experience?

My brother and I lived in Vegas for 5 years and never ran into any problems with a line at machines. We've been gone 4 years now so maybe it has changed since then.

I had never been to Vegas. I once had a choice to pick Vegas or Lake Tahoe. I picked Tahoe as I would much rather scenery than gambling.

At the time I went to Las Vegas, the town was a lot more than just gambling.

My husband and I have not gone to Las Vegas in over 20 years ago too. Our friends have gone several times even recently and all of them say it's not a cheap destination anymore. I guess things have gotten very family friendly (it wasn't as much when we went - but we didn't have kids back then) - so there are more lines, crowds and such to deal with. I suppose the standards have to be much higher these days and be kid friendly because families are wanting to be there (in my parents time you'd basically only see adults around just playing their gambling games - the only kid thing was Circus Circus). Hotels and buffets are not inexpensive anymore apparently.

The last time We went it was with our daughters. We left them at Circus Circus 2nd floor while we gambled. Now you cannot leave children out of your sight.

@marguicha I have heard so many people same thing about leaving their kids . . . like go out gambling after they went to sleep too. Ah, but that was a different time. Now no one in their right mind would leave their kids like that - wayyyy to risky!

I can't think of much that I want to do that I'd be willing to join a queue for.

I've been there once when I was thirteen and there was still plenty to do for families. I would like to go back now that I am older, just to get a different experience. but reading this makes it seem a little sadder to go back. things change, it's a shame :(

Things change. I have heard that going in a cruise is not a good experience anymore either. Too many people.
