Cakes and Cycling Across Australia

I wrote earlier about some of the travellers we’ve had stay with us. One lady (in her 50s) had a very responsible job with a US government agency. Her team was responsible for coming up with the 100ml limit for liquids, gels, etc that could be taken on planes. This came about after the 9/11 disaster. She loved wildflowers and was able to take lots of snaps of our flowers. She also cooked a lovely cake for us (see top photo) and swapped recipes with Vince.
Another lass had an identical twin but they didn’t get on at all which I thought was a great shame. Another girl was only 17 and travelling on her own. One couple had been travelling for seven years and hoped to write a book about their adventures.
Another couple in their 50s rode their push-bikes across Australia (see bottom photo). Their bikes packed up to carry-on luggage size so they would get off a plane, assemble their bikes and sally forth. They rode across the Nullarbor but were disturbed by the signs in our south-west forests which said ‘No Entry: Die-Back Area’. It’s actually a tree disease, not anything sinister. Later, this couple rode through the Mongolian Desert but nearly perished in a dust-storm.

@JudyEv A 125ml bottle with 50ml inside is seized, but there is nothing authorizing to seize an empty container. You can bring 10x100ml in a transparent bag and a 1l empty bottle. What is forbidden is to put the small bottles in the big one, not a terrorist would think at doing that, they are not bright enough
. Makes me think at the safety barriers we put in front of our schools, they would never stop a bullet or a grenade, but as there is a barrier a terrorist would never think at shooting

What a lovely cake to look at.
She is very good at the cake making.
Sorry about the trees in Australia as they are so important everywhere.

@JudyEv
That has happened here also and they are trying to do the same apart from all the fires that happen.
The very name would keep me away too.
I love trees.

@SophiaMorros Really? That's a coincidence. Are you enjoying the book? I guess you must be as I'm sure it's not the first time you've read it.

@JudyEv please do! I'm currently reading though that with my youngest daughter and I was telling her that the author had stayed with one of my MyLot friends down under.

There is a couch-surfing website and every member has a profile. So you contact someone (but only through the website) and ask can you stay - after you've checked their references. So we'd get a request check out the person and check what others had said about them then decide if we'd host them or not.

@snowy22315 With couch-surfing there is usually no money involved. That would probably be the main difference.

You meet so many interesting people. This cake looks tasty.
And I really liked the idea of this cycle being packed up to the size of a luggage. So convenient.
