Waiting for copyright period to complete on some of my (submitted)fiction stories

Back in 2017-18, from July 2017 to March 2018, I submitted fiction stories every month for an Online contest. I did not got any major prize, but got a ceramic cup as a consolation prize. However, what I liked was th opportunity I got to write on a variety of themes- Thriller, suspense, drama, romance(not my favored genre, I must admit),flashback and more. Last year has not been good in terms of my foray into writing, but I need to come back to terms this year. For that contest, the site where I sent my entries had a rule of copyright on the submitted work for two years. So I cannot start using those works elsewhere till July this year. I am awaiting for July, by when I would use (refurbished)some of my works. Or may be get major ideas and may be have stories with more twists and different endings.

That's good that the copyright is going to lapse or whatever but why don't you just write new ones? I've joined a couple of sites and rehashed some old stories but it has also got me motivated to write new stuff as well.

@JudyEv since some time I have been off track and making totally new stories at times takes a lot of time, so I wanted to use some of the ones I already had.

I remember you were talking about contests here earlier. Hope you will be able to modify the story and make it as more attractive and republish it somewhere.

@Sreekala I am hoping for the same. Yet the tougher part is to get back into regular proper writing, especially Fiction.

It might inspire you to rewrite the old ones and put new twists or write from a different perspective.

@akalinus yes but somehow I have been off track from writing for some time and need to get back. Certain offline things have been coming on and off and preventing me from doing so.

That is weird that whatever you submitted to a contest you couldn't use for two years elsewhere.

It depends on what rights the author signed over for. It sounds like they bought first rights and then ownership reverts back to the author after the specified time.
