All my life I have been a big fan of cactus and succulent plants. I think I may have inherited my interest from my maternal grandmother. She loved that type of plant and grew then on every windowsill of her home. I would love to have a couple of pot gardens for my patio. I think it would really add to the décor. The one thing that has always stopped me is the fact that I had no place inside the house of the pots during colder weather. It occurred to me this morning that this year I could have my cactus and a place to put them during the winter. Duh! I have a sun room with heat and air, the perfect spot for the plants in cold weather. Now I am looking at small cactus and succulents to put together in a large pot. I don't know what kind I will use but it will be pretty once it is done. Do you like cactus or succelents?

I didn't while I was growing up, but I do now and wonder if I could grow them. I know they don't need watering often, so that would definitely work for me as I tend to forget to water the plants. I'm surprised my current ones are doing as well as they are. I've had them for a couple of years now, which is definitely a record for me.

@HazySue They were looking sad yesterday and when I checked, they were dry. I gave them plenty of water. I add Miracle Grow to the water. They must like it as I've had these plants for two years now.

I do too. Actually, I am the only one in my family that find them fascinating now that my grandmother has passed.

They looked healthy and happy where you placed them. I think that succulents would love to have lots of sunlight and less water. In my place they would love it more since where in a tropical country where there is plenty of sunshine and water is not a problem. They can grew pretty well in here except that we do have an occassional wet season which could drown them up. But if the soild is well drained will be fine and they will survive well in my place.

Sort of, although I don't have any at the present time. They might be good to keep kitty away from though though!

Yes, I love succulents but I don't have a huge collection but I'm slowly getting them. I am more into air plants or tillandsias these days. It started when I got myself a phalaenopsis orchid, then I decided to collect tillandsias.

Are they easy to take care of? The tillandsias? I have been looking to get a couple of air plants for my screen room

I want try to grow some prickly pears, they are edible once all the thorns are removed. As for the ones in your photo, I know the insides of those are how many desert creatures get water but I'm not sure if those are edible like the prickly pear.

I'm a big fan... I will have to dig up the photo of one that bloomed with 26 flowers at the same time. It needs transplanting at the moment, and I have lots of babies that need new homes!!

You and my mother would have got along very well - she always had succulents and cacti on the window sills. My sister has inherited her love of them, but I've never grown them myself.

I know what you mean. I am fortunate that the hubby has a green thumb, otherwise I would be little in the middle of brown grass and cactus.

I have heard that they are supposed to be very easy to take care of. A little water and fertilizer goes a long way with them.

I like the not so prickly ones that bear flowers? My mother-in-law in California collects succulents too.

I like both cactus as well as succulents. My aunt gave me a cactus from her outdoor garden years and years ago, and I planted it in the garden at our home. When we put the house up for sale I took a slip from that plant and potted it in an outdoor planter. I took it with us. It lasts outside thru the winter months, it goes dormant, and comes back in the spring and produces the brightest yellow flowers.

Yes that is a perfect spot for succulents. I have sedum but no cactus. I transplanted it out in the garden and hope it comes back. I am always afraid of transplanting, never know what will happen.

I am also a little leery of moving the plants about. I have such bad luck with them to begin with but, I keep on trying.
