Sometimes I get angry with mylot. Words and actions.

My last post was about an anthropological find. But when I tried to use the word h o m o mylot did not accept it. I still don´t know why homosexuality is still a dirty word. I will also use here heterosexuality to see if they ban it. I grew learning that h o m o meant man. We were h o m o Sapiens Sapiens to differ from other similar species that were now extinct. Some time ago, the word 'gay' which for a long time meant 'happy' started to be used instead of homosexual. In the US English (I don´t know if it happens elsewhere) there are many words that cannot be used any longer. And I cannot help but remember that wise words in Forrest Gump: 'Stupid is as stupid does'. It is not the words that make a wrong, it is the actions. You can call a person 'gay' (politically correct now) and still be ho mophobic. BTW, I have had to cut the last word so this post can be read.

I'm sick of political correctness in all its forms. It's hard to say anything these days that would not offend someone.

What I think is that we should accept that some people are offended by this or that. But that should not mean that we will be punished for using a word.

@TiarasOceanView It is a shame the way people are led as if they were cattle. We should know what we want to read, write or do, up to certain limits.

I agree. The words myLot doesn't allow surprises me. I needed to change a word in my Daily Bible Study once because I used the word class and they considered it a bad word. Why is beyond me. We'll see what happens when I post this comment. I was talking about c l a s s c l o w n s. Definitely not a wrong usage of the word. I have noticed when I use the word used for donkey in the Bible, myLot accepts it. So, I have no idea what's wrong with class. Yup, won't accept it.

It is a shame. Words only mean in a context. They have no meaning by themselves so they should not be banned by a robot who does not think.

@just4him I feel that when people are too worried about profanity, it is usually because they have a dirty mind.

And to think how politically incorrect we are in Canada. We can buy 2% Milk, we can buy skim milk and we can buy homogenized milk which everyone calls h0mo milk.

Not only this site. I think that you have a word problem in your country. I refuse to call black people African American. That is absurd and it is not a race. It is as absurd as if you thought that ex President Obama was an African American. How about his mother?

@marguicha I never thought of Obama as black or African American. He is a mixed race person.

I don't recall the word I was trying to use but I remember trying to type something and not being allowed. At least I can see why certain words or parts of words might not be accepted - h o m o, for example, is often used as an insult. As I said, I don't recall the word I was trying to use but I had no idea why it wasn't acceptable. I recall having to go about looking it up. Whatever the word was, it was a perfectly ordinary word here in UK but, apparently, was something that was used offensively in the US. I suppose it is difficult/impossible to programme something to understand context. Some words are fine in certain contexts but not others. Of course, a spelling/grammar/profanity checker would not necessarily be able to pick up on the difference.

Instead of banning the word h0mo, they should ban the jerk that uses it as an insult. I remember that at the old mylot, we could not say liquor.

Well it would have been due to certain word filters. I recall sending an official email long time back, in which I send something Technical related to Databases. However, some words which are used in Database, but perhaps double meaning as per word filter were disallowed, and I had to send the mail with additional explanation.

It is human beings who have to ban words. For example, if a jerk uses the word h0mo as and insult in a post or in an answer to one of mine, I block him/her. It is the person and not the word that has to be filtered.

I can understand your frustration. I suppose certain words are just automatically banned by the Mylot computer system? If it was a human scanning each post for banned content, maybe they would consider the author's intentions for using certain words.

A robot cannot understand human being´s intentions. Just imagina that my last post was about an anthropological find in the Philippines. They would not let me use the word 'h omo' which means 'same' and 'man'. We are the H omo Sapiens, but now, in this site, we have to write it homosapiens. Even the corrector underlines that with red

I guess Mylot admin is also becoming sensitive to slurs to make all of us happy, despite our differing gender orientations.

The problem is that words only mean in context. By themselves, they have no meaning. So, h0mo, in Latin, means 'same'. And in anthropology it means 'man', I imagine that by extension as it has to do with our species.
