Murder Most Gruesome

United States

Ya know, because some of us have morbid curiosities. I came across this gallery of crime scene photos from between 1892 and 1955. Yes, some of them are rather gruesome, and that's the only warning I am giving you. Some of them, however, don't show much at all. There are quite a few photos where police almost seem to be posed around the body, though I don't think it was intentional (atleast not in all the photos). Also Lizzie Borden of the 40 whacks poem, her father is in one of the photos towards the end. *The link is not my own, but one I found* A lot of these are mobsters
From mob hits to murder-suicides, the history of crime scene photography is full of moments almost too ghastly to believe.

Every once in awhile I get interested in such things, too

Yes, it just varies. Isn't always at the end of the year (around halloween) either. I go through moods where I want to learn history too.

@FayeHazel Towards the end of the year? Hmm, well it's a good time for it to be fair. I usually read thrillers around that time of year. I'm not sure that I will this year since I am reading historic novels this year.

I think most of us will admit to a little curiosity. I didn't look at the pictures but I do watch shows like Dateline and 20/20. I also watch real crime shows on the ID channel on cable.

I don't like watching those shows as much as I like looking up things online. I have watched Lore, have you seen it? It's not quite the same, but it's still about hte past and soemtimes mentions deaths (murder)

@ScribbledAdNauseum no, I haven't watched Lore. What is it? A show or movie on tv?

@simone10 It's on amazon prime, so you'd have to have prime t.v. for it. It's actually not so much about murder, but it is about history. Like lobotomies, faeries etc. Some things that ended up in deaths or murder. They did a segment on the woman who bathed in the blood of virgin women, I can't remember what her name was.

Many of them are creepy, but also interesting .They give us an impression of life at time (streets, rooms etc) and I find that interesting. I like old photos. The one with the trunk reminded me of a Danish murder from around the same time. I don't remember the details, but the body of a woman was found in a trunk.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I found the site and I was able to see it. I especially liked the photos of buildings and people. I noticed that some of the photos are very old. We have some sites that contain old photos from my island, but most of the photos are less than 100 years old.

@Porcospino These were of a settlement called Salem. It was a Moravian settlement and so the language was German for many, many years.

If you like old photos... I am not sure if you'll be able to access it, sites can be funny sometimes. However, digitalforsyth.org has lots of old photos from the area that I live in now.

I have to agree with you that some are not so bad. I was surprised to see the Mafia Boss Joe Masseria holding an ace of space while he was killed, it is considered an "unlucky card" in Italy.

@LadyDuck I see. A card, once drawn, usually has the person losing the game?

@ScribbledAdNauseum Exactly, I remember a game that the one who has this card when all the card are drawn loses the game.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It is a bad card for many Italian games.
