The Police Are Coming to Get Me!

I had a missed call on my cell phone a little while ago, and I didn't recognize the number, so I didn't think twice about it. But then a minute ago, a voicemail popped up. So I tried to listen to the message, but it was in Chinese!
Thank goodness my iPhone has a translator feature on it, because the Chinese person who left the voicemail message informed me that the police were on their way to arrest me unless I called them right away to pay a fine I owed.
So as soon as I'm done writing this post, I'm going to get dressed and be ready for when the police arrive to take me to jail for not paying a fine to whatever organization this Chinese person belongs to.
I sure hope the police officers who come to arrest me speak English! Oh, and I also hope they let me myLot in jail!

It just blows my mind that this scam--and others like it--actually work. It's scary to think of how many people actually fall for things like this.

On the bright side, if they're taking you to serve time in a Chinese prison it will be an excellent opportunity to learn about Chinese culture and tradition. :)

Now that's looking on the bright side of things! And maybe they'll put me in a prison work camp, so that I can do hard labor and contribute to the Chinese economy! Hey, maybe I'll end up working in a Nike shoe factory alongside all the 8-year old children making shoes!

Last time they called me they were charging me with....withholding income tax and fraud. . I've not had any income that's taxable in five years.....

Oh yes, I forgot about those IRS tax scams! They've tried that scam on me too before! I never worry about those messages, because I know that I report all of my income. I'm too honest when it comes to things like that. And plus, I've been audited by the IRS before, so I know what it's like to go through their processes. And being arrested is usually not one of their tactics! Think about it, if you are in jail, you are not collecting an income. If you are not collecting an income, the IRS can't tax you, so the last thing they want is for you to go to jail! haha

@moffittjc I've dealt with some overdue business back tax. Like you I've dealt with the tax office and that isn't at all how they contact you....nor their attitude to you when they are helping you calculate and repay any outstanding taxes.

Thankfully, I like Chinese food, so I hope they do serve it while I am in jail!
When the Lightning got eliminated from the playoffs, the first thing I said to my daughter was that the Caps were going to win it all.
Good luck to them, although I'll be rooting for whoever they're playing!

Sometimes I think I wouldn't mind being thrown in a jail cell, because then I wouldn't have a care in the world. No more stress at work; no more worrying about bills; no more dealing with all that life throws at you! Just give me a bunk, a toilet, and internet access, and I'll be just fine! haha

I think they have autobots and autodialers that just systematically call phone numbers all over the world. They are just trying to reach as many people as possible.

It is pretty bad as far as scams go. I don't know how they can expect to be successful in their scam if they don't even speak the native language.

Are you in an English speaking company that you can hope that the policeman speaks English? Why would they arrest you fro not paying a fine?

That's funny. I get spam calls about owing the government. Like they would directly call you. Everybody should know that most things come in by letter about owing something very important. Then it had the nerve to be in a foreign language to you. Just too much!

I don't have a voice message set up so I will never come across this issue! But I have picked up before getting the same complaint but in English. No one came for me.

I figured I'll be thrown in a Chinese jail and forced to do hard labor. Which means I'll probably end up working in a Nike shoe factory alongside all the abused children they force to make their shoes.

Phone scams are so common that it's not even worth contacting the police. There's probably not much they can do about it anyway, since these calls are probably originating from another country. I just delete the messages and block the number.
