Back from the festival

We arrived home today after spending four nights in our caravan at a music festival some two hours from home. Our friends were with us in their caravan and a single friend slept in the annex of the van. We were able to partition off a ‘room’ for her. The weather stayed beautifully warm although we had quite strong winds the first night. Some of those who were camping in tents were up during the night adding more tent pegs to try to counteract the wind. There were some wonderful musicians there as always although some we found to be very loud even with our deafness. The sound engineers seemed to delight in turning up the bass to the point where the ground was just about shaking. As always, there were dozens of activities and workshops for children and young people of all ages. We don’t really expect to be there next year as we might head off on the ‘big lap’ in early March which means we’d miss the festival. The big lap is the name given to travelling round the perimeter of Australia. Unfortunately neither of us took many photos this year so I’m putting up one from a previous festival.

The awnings on the caravans were flapping and keeping us awake. We anchored them down a bit next night but it wasn't nearly as windy.

Welcome back, and hope you had a fun time despite the winds and loud bass. I prefer soft music. Loud hurts my ears.

They had a parade at the end of the weekend and I had to leave as it was really hurting my ears.

The crowds were all happy. The kids had a ball as it was a very safe environment for them.

@LadyDuck The Indonesian Tourist Commission had a big display at the festival. We sat through a short video and listened to some of their folk talking about their country. When we came home, we investigated how much it would cost to take the car and caravan to Indonesia in a container on a ship. Luckily, it is much too expensive so we won't be doing that.

I think there will be many young people who become deaf at quite a young age. They all like their music SOOO loud.

Yes, I've had my music fix for a while although we have a concert to go to on Friday. But it will be a small show in a hall that only holds about 70 people.

No, we didn't perform. We were just part of the audience. There were a great many performances to choose from.

I”d rather hear the bass than feel it. One of the biggest music festivals in the US, MerleFest, was this past weekend as well. I had friends all over at music festivals!!

I like my music loud, but that sounds a little beyond my likings. I hope that your hearing wasn't affected.

It's probably too late for my hearing to be affected but even for us it was loud.

I don't know why they do it. I'm sure we're not the only ones that don't like it.

At most of these festivals, the weather has done something a bit crazy - either a thunderstorm or dust storm so a bit of wind wasn't worth complaining about really.

Music festivals are great fun. The young people always seem to like to hear their music played loudly.
