Did Spring Get Lost in Your Neck of the Woods? I Feel Like Hibernating

We turned our furnace down last week when it got warmer one or two days and it was nice and toasty inside. The weather will change from cold to warmer so fast that it's hard to get our house down to a pleasant temp once it warms up. I have yet to know when to turn the heat off early enough but not so early that we freeze inside.
We were supposed to get snow this weekend. Thankfully, it never showed up, but the temps keep dipping down into the mid thirties at night, so we had to turn the furnace back on again. Today, all I wanted to do once we got a couple small window jobs done was to burrow under blankets and sleep the day away. I did take a two hour nap, but it still feels quite damp in here. It's not, it's just so nippy outside right now that it feels colder inside.
Some years we have a quick spring that doesn't last very long and summer is with us too fast. I doubt that this year anyone will complain if and when we get more hot days because the way it's going it's hard to believe it will ever warm up and stay there. Of course, that could change without a day's notice, but I'm ready. How about you?
We have green grass now, but still no flowers. This image is from a few years ago.

After a real spring, we had a few days recently where it was actually kinda summerish. So I thought it was the end of spring (at least we had a real one for once). The past couple mornings have been gray - today was even a bit damp from last night . . . parts of the day even kinda chilly. What's going on

@MarshaMusselman For us, it had been in the 60s for a long time - not typical as it gets heated from early on in the year (been that way for years now). Although this and rain were typical when I was growing up here. And now we're going back to the old pattern? Strange!

@much2say We may not see eighties until July the way it's looking. What state do you reside in? I'm sure the patterns rotate around. The Bible says there's nothing new under the sun. I don't worry about the weather, although I certainly don't enjoy it either when it's cold for far too long.

I thought with the ice we had this year that maybe we'd have a slower spring, but I was hoping it would stay at around low sixties, not in the forties for so much of the month. I've no idea what's going on. Maybe it was this way when we were kids and we just don't remember it much.

Every time it seems nice weather is locking in there's an abrupt turn to lousy.

Exactly. why is that? Although, what each of us considers to be nice weather is different. In a few more months we'd be happy if it got down nearer fifties after we see the scorching temps, but right now I'm looking forward to a few of those.

We don't have spring here. I would also find my self sleeping if it's cold and damp outside
I guess I just love to sleep

I enjoy sleeping too, but I should be doing other things instead. You don't have spring at all there? Then you probably don't have winters either, I'm guessing.

@MarshaMusselman Yes, you're correct. Just the summer and rainy season for you, when you live in a tropical country
Because of that I'm excited to see snow

@MarshaMusselman It is very warm this morning. My little fig tree already bears several little figs, I cannot wait to try them, the tree is only one year old, those are the first fruits.

@LadyDuck Congrats, Anna, on your tree bearing fruits of figs that is. At least it got up above forty today, but not much. This weekend might be much better.

We've not had the warmer temps yet here that you had there even last month already. We've had days of warmer weather but then it gets cold again for more days than it was warm. Next week looks like it might be better again, at least into the fifties and mid to higher sixties, so that will be good. Maybe then we'll get more flowers.
The trees are beginning to bud out, though, which is a big surprise for how cold it's been. Maybe they know something we don't?

Beginning on Thursday our temps will go up about twenty degrees or at least ten and it may stay there for the following week. It may still rain, but at least it may not be quite so damp.

@MarshaMusselman Well, that is definitely a good thing. Where I live it is going to get very hot and very humid very soon and honestly I am not sure I am TOTALLY looking forward to that. The worst part is having to run the air, which I hate. If I had my way I'd prefer to have milder temperatures and be able to keep the windows open and maybe a couple of fans running. But during the summer here you just can't do that. It gets into the 100s and the humidity gets into the 80-90% range.

@porwest If we are ever able to redo our furnace we may get air, but I wouldn't run it all the time but save it for the extra hot summer days when it's hard to sleep.

That's what we're seeing too and I'm tired of it. At least it's no longer snowing, but otherwise it's still a bit on the chilly side.

@Nevena83 Today was cold still, but at least the rain waited until supper time and we got two jobs done. Yeah! The poor guys hands were red from the cold. It did begin raining sometime this evening and it looks like it will rain all day tomorrow, so I'm not trying to plan on any work. I'm hoping I can get some extra things done around the house.
I brought up an old vacuum to see whether it works or not. I need and want to vacuum my bedroom and the room I have my bookkeeping in. I don't do either room often enough and I want it done before my surgery in June. I may find that all my old vacuums that are stored in the basement no longer work, but that remains to be seen.

The weather here is all over the place too. We had snow over the weekend and tomorrow will be in the mid 70s. Nights are very chilly and the furnace comes on quite a few times. I had to mow the lawn already and we have a tulip that popped up and bloomed. All the buds are growing nicely in the lilac bushes.

@MarshaMusselman oh no I hope the spring flowers didn’t get thrown out during weeding
. The peonies are already about a foot tall and by the end of next month they should be blooming. We had a bad frost two nights ago that everyone is worried will have killed everything that was starting to bloom so we will see.

My lilac bushes haven't any buds on them that it looks like from afar. I didn't walk close to look at them good. But, all the other spring flowers that are usually blooming by now aren't. We did do some weeding and I'm thinking maybe some spring flowers like daffodils and crocuses may have been removed by mistake, but when they've not bloomed yet it's hard to know where they are exactly.

It is cold here and we had a freeze warning last night but I think warmer weather is on the way, at least I hope so.

@MarshaMusselman Yes I got back the end of March, we had a short stay in Florida this year since I had to be back for a genealogy conference the first week of April.

It may get a bit warmer here on Thursday through Sat, but only in the sixties if it stays. It's down near 35 at night here too. If there's a freeze warning I've not heard, but I'm also not concerned as no flowers would be affected like we might usually have this late into April.
I'm guessing you're back into CT again for the summer months?

I have friends in Chicago who were dumbfounded by the snowstorm over the weekend. My comment was, “Go home, winter. You’re drunk.”

We were supposed to get that snow but it veered off before it got this far. Snow in April isn't uncommon. It's less common in May, although we've had a bit then too and even in June. I don't like it, but it is what it is as they say.

THis week we've begun to have the trees in the city begin to bud which is always nice to see. Oddly enough, this wasn't the warmest week, but maybe all the extra rain caused or helped them bud more than the warmer weather.

We have many years in the past when it was decent the beginning of April. We still got a stray snow storm or two but overall the rest of the time it was a lot warmer than it was this year and this month.
I hope May starts out warmer than April is leaving us, but it doesn't necessarily look that way to me at present.

@DianneN I'm sure it will too. I just thought it had already and am quite surprised I didn't pick the best week to take off from the one job to try to get extra work done. Well, at least I'm getting a bit of a break.

@MarshaMusselman I remember how rainy and cold it was last year when we returned, not to mention a pile of snow in the driveway. I’m sure it will warm up very soon!

We were able to get two jobs in today although we all wore our winter gear, hats and gloves included. The rain didn't start here until around 5pm or so. I was napping so I'm not sure when it began, but it's raining now and it looks like it will rain through until sometime early Thursday. Only then might it warm up some again.
At present it looks like sixty degree temps are headed our way and may stay there at least in the daytime hours into the next week, or at least close to that.Of course, that could change again with some weather system, but hopefully it will stay at least that warm as the days progress.

@just4him Slowly is the definitive word there. Fifties seems to be more like early April weather, not the beginning of May. Granted at least it's not snowing, but...

@MarshaMusselman Right now, it's stopped raining. It won't start up again until sometime tomorrow afternoon. We're getting 60s for the weekend and then it goes back to the 50s. We're slowly warming up.

Spring came on the calendar, but it has yet to be here very many days in a row here in Michigan. There are some states out west that are getting more snow fall this week, so the cold isn't quite gone yet. Where do you live, I don't know if I recall?
Michigan is normally late to see spring. The calendar says it's here in mid March, but we usually still have snow storms that month. This year wasn't too bad for snow, but it was still cold and has been off and on for April this year as well.

@Janet357 Well one difference would be that it doesn't hurt to get snow in the eyes. I imagine getting sand in one's eyes might be excruciating. I've never been in a sand storm, but even though I dislike the cold weather, I'd take a snow storm instead. With snow storms you're still expected to go to work unless no one is able to drive through it and that is a rare thing.

The weather is currently beautiful here. The flowers are blooming, and the weeds are thriving. I'm hoping we don't have our usual late May heat wave. Here are some of my flowers. My shadow got in the way.
