AC: Yay or Nay?

As April comes to an end and temperatures are heating up, I wanted to see how many of you MyLotters have turned on your air conditioners yet for the summer? We have had temperatures hitting the mid 80's here this week and it brought up the discussion between my husband and me about when we would turn the air conditioner on. I was hoping to wait it out a little longer, but I don't think he is willing to do that. I spend most of my time outdoors, so it doesn't really bother me at all during the day. My house is cool until mid-afternoon. I have also been comfortable at night. He said he is not. But, he's not sleeping at night. He stays awake all night and sleeps most of the day. What are you doing at your house? Turning on the AC or waiting it out still. I know some of you are still having chilly weather, so just disregard this if that is your situation.

It crossed 40 degrees Celsius in April and we were using the AC. Right now my family is not with me and alone, I can manage without AC. I use a fan and open the windows at night.

@kareng we are at well over 100 degrees. It's gonna be this way for a month at least. Hopefully it will get a bit cooler mid-June

I have had my ceiling fans going throughout the month of April. It was a lot cooler in April here though. Looks like we are in the groove now for 85+. Not looking forward to the 90's.

We just started turning ours on in the bedroom at night. Then in the afternoon when it heats up in the den, we will turn that one on.

@kareng Yeah, after sunset radiation from concrete structures causes heat too.

The temperature in our place is 44 C and being on top floor we have to depend on AC already. Now we are worrying about the electricity charges.

That is our problem in the winter. Fuel cost more in winter for us.

Air conditioning as it is here at the moment is something that you keep turned off and mostly don´t have anyway although it hits the top 40 and over a lot of the times the electric charges are astronomical at any given time as well.

@kareng I have been doing everything I can to keep warm without that awful heating he has put in here it does not work properly at all and also the charges for that are very high too. I have missed my long leg boots this time around as they broke on me.

I never turn the AC on :-) Don't have one, 'cause with normal weather, it'll never be warm enough for it. I would probably go for your version though, and wait. I don't really like very warm weather, but I don't like it when it's very cold inside compared to outside either.

Sounds like the perfect environment not needing AC! I do not like to be cold though. Got to have my heat.

@Torunn Yikes. We had a tease of back and forth cold and chilly weather before we got the warm stuff on a regular basis.

@kareng We had nearly summer weather, now it's back to +4 degrees Celsius and rain. Definitly no need for AC today :-) I suppose must people have turned the electrical heating back on.

@wolfgirl569 Yep, I was looking for it too. Just don't want it to soar into the 90's so soon. Guess I am doomed here in the south. But still better than freezing :)

We are in South Florida and have had the a/c running most of the time since December. We do love the rare cool nights and days, so we can sleep with the doors and windows open. The sad thing is that our heat has been on at our home up in CT to prevent the pipes from bursting.

Being in Wisconsin it has not gotten hot enough for AC yet. I try to hold out as long as possible for the AC just due to the cost of running it.

That is what we have been trying to do. However, temps are up to 86-88 with humidity in 90+%, so it's time to cool off a bit. Enjoy your Spring weather. It only lasts for a week or two down south.

@kareng Yea, with those temps and humidity, I would have the AC all the time. Here our spring last a while but it's a little different, last Saturday we had 3 inches of snow and then we had 5 days of rain in the 40's today was all sun and 60F. So you never know what your going to get from day to day.

I want a/c in the car. Hubby still wants the heat. We wait until really late and rather hot for household a/c and we just have window units in the bedrooms. None in the living rooms or kitchens. I like being outdoors.

While the weather is still fairly mild, I want to be outside. We have a unit in our bedroom and another in the dining room/den area. It cools the kitchen also.

I used AC during night when my daughter goes for sleeping. Personally I am not so much fan of it. After few minutes of AC on , I feel shivering. No it has not so much priority to me.
