Perplexed by filling a prescription

Hubby was almost out of one of his heart medicines. He has changed heart doctors and decided to have the new doctor send the prescription to a different place, as we have had bad luck trying to fill prescriptions at Wal Mart.
Any place we fill will be at least thirty miles or more to pick up.
I called Dr. A's office Monday morning, and left a message on the nurses' line.
About two hours later, the specified Pharmacy called and left a voice mail that the prescription was READY to be picked up.
Tuesday, while I was at work, hubby called the grocery store pharmacy where it was being filled, to MAKE SURE the Rx was ready. They said "it will be ready in twenty minutes."
He goes to the line for the pharmacy window, and stands. When he gets to the counter the store does not have it ready. It will be "twenty minutes".
We shopped.
Hubby went to pick up the prescription. The store does not have enough medication to fill it. Only about 1/3 of it. The script is written for 90 days, but he was given thirty days worth. That is enough for now, but I am just really bothered by the entire communication. We drove thirty minutes to pick it up. We were told at least twice that it was ready.
Does no one check into things before they speak?

Yes. And the doctors want to phone in most of them. I know some must be hand delivered but the things we take, they want to just fax or phone the pharmacy. Another case where automation is not helpful.

@GardenGerty My doctor does the same thing. And then the pharmacy needs forever to fill them.

@wolfgirl569 Yes. I was a bit annoyed at hubby as he did not let me or them know until he was down to two days pills. I was afraid I would have delays.

Obviously not. Does the new pharmacy offer delivery service?

@BarBaraPrz Closest pharmacy is ten miles away, closes at 5 pm and is closed on weekends and costs more. Next one is twenty five miles away and I know nothing about it. We were doing the one at Wal Mart or at Dillons as we shop there anyway.

It may be their standard answer for everyone. Yes, it does make us annoyed, for sure.

There are closer pharmacies, but they cost more and do not have long hours. You know, close at 5 pm or such.

@Dena91 I have Humana at this time for med coverage, but I only take one med. Hubby has Tricare and we could have VA fill it, but it would take longer and actually cost more. We learned this year that that was very ineffective.

We do not have a lot of choices that are convenient.

At least we were able to get some as he would have been out the next day.
