Going out to place my Kentucky Derby bet later

I've always watched the Derby even though I haven't ever bet on it. This year I'm doing things in reverse: I don't have cable so I won't be able to watch the race (unless I can find it online) but I am going out to place a bet!
A friend/coworker posted on FB that she was going to go to the local off-track betting parlor today to place her Derby bet. I responded that it sounded like fun. This morning she invited me to meet up with her there for a drink and to place our bets. I'm not really into gambling except for the occasional MegaMillions or Powerball ticket but at least it is something to do this afternoon to get out of the apartment. I have a hard time on the weekends being here by myself with nothing to do.
So now I need to do some research to figure out which horse I want to bet on. I never cheer for the favorite. . . I always go for a different one because you just never know.
Anyone have any suggestions for me?

No, I don't even know who is in the race. Good luck on your horse though. Since you love to cook maybe you can do some catering on the weekends..as long it is low key or not stressful. Some volunteer work totally different from what you do during the week, might help fill the void and the hours as well.

Are you going to a sportsbar where you can watch it?
