First Benefit of Retirement Discovered

What has my first week of retirement been like? Well....sick.
Around here we call what I have “the Ohio Valley crud.” It’s not really a cold, although it can feel like it in some instances. It’s more of an allergy issue. Personally, I get the OVC in my throat. Others sneeze their heads off; yet others have eyes so watery you’d think they were crying nonstop. Occasionally I get all of the above.
Oh, don’t cry for me, Argentina. In this most recent episode I have discovered one of retirement’s benefits. Sure, I didn’t want to find this out this quickly, but....
My job was hourly, which meant no workey, no money. I only worked half a day, so I would “soldier on” or “suck it up” and suffer through the day at work.
When I started feeling bad on Thursday, I went to the grocery, got some chicken soup, then came home and went to bed. I got up, ate my chicken soup, then went back to bed.
Yesterday? Basically the same thing. I went out to get some more mouthwash (gargling helps tremendously) and chicken soup, came home, went to bed. This morning, I got up when I felt like it. I felt like going out for my Saturday routine, so I’m at my regular Saturday lunch spot. If I feel like it I’ll go get my fro-yo treat. If I don’t, it’s back to the hay.
I’m sure as the weeks and months progress I’ll discover more terrific benefits of retirement. But for now, the ability to simply stay home, rest, and recover tops the list!
Oh, does this song work on a lot of levels...

Ha, they’ve been bugging me since I was 34. I figure if they just removed me from their mailing list they could give lifetime memberships to 25 people, just with the mailing costs they saved.

They are persistent. I guess they figure retired people have a lot of time to read now.

Yup! When you're retired, bedtime is anytime. Hope you get over the OVC.
