So, what does a person eat on a raw vegan diet? Nothing cooked Nothing that comes from animals The picture is an idea of what I have been eating in one day for the last 21 days. 1 romaine 5 apples 3 oranges A bunch of gapes Some cucumbers 1 zucchini Some fava beans Some tomatoes I'm trying this kind of diet for a while to see what happens. I also take a daily B12 supplement. From your experience and knowledge, do you think this is a healthy diet or one that will make me sick? What do you think?
John from http://www.okraw.com/ talks with Dr. Rick Dina, D.C. about the top 12 tips that will ensure you are successful on the raw vegan diet for the long t...

Many people eat raw and they are fine, use those fava beans as a protein. I am going back, I have to this meat eating, bread and sweets are killing me. My favorite cook books are : The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone and Rawmazing by Susan Powers I am all for vegetarian, vegan and raw diets, I have just lost my way but I am getting back in this path, I was so happy and never sick feeling when I ate like this.

Sounds interesting.. This time you can get vitamin D3 from the sun - More people should eat alkaline food - and maybe the fava beans can get you proteins and many other goodies!!

@1hopefulman Yeah, we have lots of sun here too, but this morning we had snow - as they say in Finnish, “taka-talvi=back winter” The vitaminnD3 is still working if we are out abut the mid-day, even if it is cloudy

I think you might want to check if you get enough proteins and fat on that diet. You will probably also have to take more supplements if you continue. Possibly also more vegetables, for more fiber. What do you want to achieve by following this diet?

@1hopefulman The best diet for what? You probably have some plan :-) It's a good diet for not leaving big carbon-footprints. Actually, if you buy local, it's probably excellent. Add some more tomatoes or tofu, and your CO2-imprint from food will still be very small.

It's good, but you don't have any protein source in your diet, so it might not be good. Diets should give you a balance and I would think a vegan diet would also.

I have done some research on protein and apparently every food has protein and at the right percentage and so as long as one eats enough calories it should be no problem. I'm just trying it for a while and if I experience any problem then I will stop.

I think your body would let you know . . . how are you feeling? I don't know if that is enough protein to balance out the rest . . . but I am all for cutting out more meat proteins, though you've done it completely. Me personally I'd pump up the vegetables and eat only a piece or two of fruit (only because of the sugars, even if it is natural sugar). I have friends who have transitioned to veganism successfully (though not entirely raw), but they say it was a gradual transition.

@1hopefulman Oh wow, 12 years! What made you decide to go with raw vegan? Though my friend will still eat cooked vegan items, she says her head and body aches have disappeared - she lost a ton of weight - and she feels overall healthy in a way she hadn't for a long time. Well good luck to you - yah, let us know how it goes!!

Just make sure you have all of your nutrients needed. Many people dont eat enough protein when they try to do without meat. Make sure you are getting that.

Since all foods have protein, it seems that as long as one eats enough calories there should be no problem. I will keep an eye on things and see.

@1hopefulman In that case I don't think it is good at all. Surely you need some carbs and protein.

hi, i'm a nutritionist, i can tell you that this is not a healthy diet, it won't make you sick right away but it won't make you healthier too ! and you need much more than vitamin B12, you need calcium, vitamin D, iron, some amino acids and a lot more !! don't banish everything that comes from animals, at least don't banish fish and sea food !!

@1hopefulman Right, probably true but I don't think you could eat enough without eating beans, lentils, or some kinds of nuts. Most people eat more protein then they need..but still you don't want to eat less than you need.

If one lives on a farm and grows their own food then no supplements are necessary. The reason we are still here is because all we need is in nature. Supplements are very new. For thousands of years there were no artificial supplements.

Yes, fruits and vegetables taste best when they are the freshest. The greasy stuff may taste good but I think all doctors would encourage us to minimize that kind of food and tell us to increase our vegetables.

@1hopefulman Its a fine planet when fruits and vegetables are allowed to grow naturally on their own and produce quality food. But then they got to be good because we grew the seed special.
