Four more sleeps and airline meals

Four more sleeps and we leave for Perth to catch a flight to Doha in Qatar. Do you count down sleeps before something special? A friend of mind counts ‘get-ups’ so I have three get-ups. Lol Yesterday we were able to give our meal options to the airline. Although he doesn’t really need to, Vince chose ‘diabetic’ as this means his meal is usually delivered before other people’s. I chose diabetic too so I don’t have to sit there and watch him eat. I was amazed at the meal types available. There must have been 15 or 16 including ‘young people’, gluten-free, low-cholesterol, low calorie, Halal, Jain (no idea what that is),lactose-free, vegetarian, vegan’. It’s good that these are all made up before they get anywhere near the plane. Photo of a great meal we had on the Queen Mary ll.

I wonder how many you would count down if you were an insomniac! A Jain diet is one that they can only eat foods grown above ground so no potatoes garlic or onions as they consider it a living thing. They try to avoid killing anything so they are very cautious about eating bugs. Some even walk brushing the floor where they are walking incase they accidentally step on an animal like an ant for example. It is an Indian religion and quite interesting. Gosh if that is what is being served on the QMII I am worried it looks like raw Steak Tartare with a sprout on top! Have a brilliant flight. I love flying. I guess you are flying with Qatar airlines. Their food is fantastic akin to a 5 star restaurant. They treat you like Royalty in Business class.

I hope they treat us like nobility in economy class! The photo would have been an entree. I don't know what it can be. It looks like brawn but that's hardly likely. And thanks for the information about Jainism.

That is a lot of choice. I usually count down the days toward something special. Was that salmon? It's pretty, but doesn't look that filling. I hope you had some bread with it.

@snowy22315 One definition is: 'meat from a pig's or calf's head that is cooked and pressed in a pot with jelly' but whenever we make it, which isn't often, we use other meats, not the head. The meat is all small pieces, pressed and set in gelatine.

We had at least three courses. I think this was probably an entree. I'm not sure what it was. It looks like brawn more than anything.

So they didn't offer organic? Thankfully I don't fly. Oh well. I hope you get a lot of rest now so that you can have a lot more fun when you're in Qatar.

For me to fly, which scares me, I'd need organic bourbon so I wouldn't be able to feel the pain @JudyEv

Yeah last year was our first long haul trip to the US and we were quite excited and we really had to count the days before flight. Lol. That is nice that you have many choices to choose from. Looked like the plane is accommodating passengers preferences of diets they want.

I count days. Right now I have a collegue who's counting school days til the summer holidays :-) I'm quite impressed by the number of choices. And maybe a bit worried, it's so OK for actual sickness and allergies but so many people don't want this or that for no medical reason and that must be a whole lot fuss for those preparing the food.

@JudyEv The meals will come prepared in an airplane, so maybe it's easier there than for restaurants etc.

I thought that too. What a rigmarole if you were the cook but I guess they are used to it. The more choices you give people the more they want I reckon.

@JudyEv Most cruise ships I have ever been on offer unlimited food and drinks. Was it the same on the Queen Mary II? If so, I could see why they brought smaller portions.

@moffittjc Mostly we chose to dine in the fancy part but you could go to the buffet and have virtually the same but serve yourself. I guess the plating up wouldn't be quite so fancy. And yes, there was food available pretty much round the clock.
