Got to see where Woodstock was held

Friday while my daughter was at her friends house I watched two movies while doing surveys. One was “Aspergers R Us” and the other was “Kelly and Cal”. Aspergers R Us was boring but Kelly and Cal was okay. Before bed I finished reading a book called “ The last innocent man” by Phillip Margolin. First time reading anything by this author and I really liked the book so now I have started reading another book of his called “Sleeping Beauty”. Saturday my boyfriend and I took his son and my daughter to Bethel Woods Center of the Arts. The grounds is where the original Woodstock Festival was held 50 years ago. They have recreated 1/4 of the Bindy Bazaar trail so we went on a short guided walk to learn about it. They plan to restore the entire trail as well as have an artist come in next month to yarn bomb the trees. I think if the entire trail was restored and the trees were yarn bombed I would have enjoyed the trail tour more. After the trail tour we checked out the Woodstock monument where I found a geocache. My daughter picked up a bundle of sage to burn inside the geocache and I dropped off a trackable. We toured the indoor museum and honestly it was rather boring. My daughter loved it though as she is huge into music the past few years. My ticket to get in was $20 and hers was $10. $10 might have been worth it for how boring it was but not the $20. There was no where nearby to eat so we drove towards home and about an hour from home stopped at a restaurant that my boyfriend and I had dined at a few years ago while in that area. Near my boyfriends grandmothers house is a really small rinky dink ice cream shop he and his son enjoy so we stopped there for dessert before driving the rest of the way home. Today I made a new recipe called “Peanut butter chocolate chip dessert hummus”. It smells amazing but is kind of blah. It tastes pretty good on pretzels with the crunch and salt on them but I wouldn’t bother making the recipe again. My grandmother just died a few months ago at 85 or so. She had gone to the original Woodstock festival. I wish I had gotten to ask her about what it was like. On the guided walk there was a man who attended the original Woodstock. Has anyone here been to any of the Woodstock’s? I’m thinking there might not be many here old enough to have gone to the original festival. They have been planning a 50th anniversary Woodstock festival or this summer but it’s been cancelled. They do other concerts at Bethel Woods though. My daughter is going in August to a concert there with her friend and her parents. My sister is also going to a concert there this summer. Most my photos are on my camera and I haven’t been on my computer to transfer them so I made a collage of two photos that were on my phone. The top photo is of the trailhead to the Bindy Bazaar and the bottom is a car inside the museum.

I wasn't born yet when Woodstock happened, but I kinda wish I had been able to go. The music, the culture, and everything Woodstock stood for would have been amazing to experience.

@moffittjc Part of the museum had a lot about what was happening in the world at the time. It didn't make sense to me why there was so much about the president and the war etc in a museum about Woodstock. My 14 year old daughter had to explain to me later why that was . She's a !ot smarter then I am. She absolutely loved the museum and made a post on Instagram about how she felt transported to another time. My boyfriend , his son and I were pretty bored by it though.

@moffittjc I felt like that as a teen. I always liked the 60s and 70s music and clothes. I dressed like a hippie in the late 90s when it wasn’t in style lol. The museum just was too much reading I felt. One couple had a tour guide and that seemed more interesting to listen to then maybe go back through and read it all. I browsed and took a lot of photos to fully read later like this one which amazed me.

@shaggin I would have been like your daughter. I would have totally been transported back in time. I would have been totally absorbed with everything in the museum. I have always told people I was born in the wrong generation, and that I should have been in the 60s instead.

I heard of that dessert hummus before, but hadn't tried it. Happy it was edible anyway. Sorry about loss of your grandma. I haven't been to any of the Woodstocks. I liked Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane) when she was interviewed on it.

@FayeHazel I have seen different kinds of dessert hummus in the stores but didn't think they would be good. This was better then I expected those to taste but it was still bland to me. I didn't know my grandmother well so it was more sadness for what my father was going through having lost his mother that he probably was close to growing up even if he wasn't close as an adult.

I served in the Army with a woman who grew up in the Bethel area. She was only around 12 when Woodstock happened. She said all the parents of the area kept their kids home during Woodstock. "LOCK UP YOUR DAUGHTERS THE HIPPIES ARE COMING". lol

@shaggin Yeah, here were only a couple of deaths, but that was thanks to the Governor of New York declaring it a disaster area so the Army National Guard could come help. The Huey Helicopter Air Ambulance Teams and local hospitals performed miracles that week. What was planned probably would have been fine for families. Yeah, what it ended up being made for the stuff of legends lol

@ParaTed2k I saw some photos where little children went with their parents to Woodstock. Eek doesn’t sound like a good place for little ones really. But I saw an information sign saying there was only two deaths at Woodstock and one of them was an accident on the way home so that doesn’t really count on my eyes. It said some people welcomed them with signs and some were completely against them coming. This sign I saw in the museum reminds me of what you mentioned.

@snowy22315 seeing the grounds and hearing about things then seeing photos of it inside the museum helped me picture what it was like in the area at the time. It definitely would have been neat to have attended Woodstock and then come back now 50 years later and see how different it looks. The one guy on the walking trail said his memories of being at Woodstock are foggy . I bet for many who attended the same would be said.

Yarn-bombing doesn't really do anything for me. I just don't see the point and it never looks that artistic - but that's just me.

@JudyEv I looked on the Facebook page to see if they had anything written about who the artist is who will be doing the yarn bombing but they don't. On the walking tour they couldn't remember the artists name. I would like to look up to see what the yarn bombing she does look like. For the most part yarn bombing looks awful or just okay. I did find some neat things online that look neat. I'll add the links to the. https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/trees-storm-yarn-decorated-coloured-wool-street-art-hippie-concept-trees-storm-yarn-decorated-coloured-wool-106677089.jpg https://www.thisiscolossal.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/squid-1.jpg

@JudyEv while searching I saw some odd things being yarn bombed. Cars and bikes. I can't think what else but it must take forever for something not that beautiful

@shaggin Thanks for the link. The yarn-bombed bikes look okay but I don't really like it on trees. They're beautiful enough as they are.

I'm sorry the tour and museum wasn't as good as you had hoped. And that there was no food place nearby. That's actually kind of weird, to me. But *shrugs. Do you know why they cancelled the anniversary festival? I hope both your sister and daughter have fun at their concerts this summer.

@shaggin it does sound crazy. They've had plenty of time to get it all planned and a back up plan, etc. that's crazy too, like here, there's food everywhere. LOL. I can't imagine being somewhere with food not around. and a Saturday, wow. yeah i'd think they'd be open.

@Courtlynn We drove by a million farms. I think I saw more cows on this drive then I have ever seen in my life . The museum didn't even have a little restaurant just coffee for $5 and cheesecake etc. We wanted dinner not expensive coffee and sweets.

@TiarasOceanView did you live nearby? I think your mom made a smart choice in not letting you go. Early adulthood was probably the best age to go. I did see photos of small children on their parents laps but it seems like to wild of an event to take kids to me that age.

@LadyDuck Woodstock was long before I was born. As a teen reading magazines about what Woodstock was like it seemed absolutely magical to me. Getting to see where it was held was pretty neat but I found the museum quite boring. My daughter loved it though so that's awesome! I read on Facebook a week or so ago about them cancelling the 50th anniversary Woodstock. Sad for those who were probably so excited to go.

@simone10 my daughter is 15 today and she knew what Woodstock was before we went that day. Amazing how famous it became from what it started out with them thinking would be a small gathering.

@Tampa_girl7 I wasn't born for many years after Woodstock so I couldn't go either However I did debate on going to this year's 50th anniversary one with my daughter however it was cancelled. I should look up to see how many other Woodstock festivals were put on. Nothing would ever compare to that first one though.

@DianneN as a teen I was really wild and I think I would have fit in very well at Woodstock Now I wouldn't be able to handle being around that many people in one area.

@andriaperry I've been stressed and super busy. I try to pop in when I can to read posts but when I am stressed I usually don't write many of my own posts. Yard work has been taking up most my free time. I love the warm weather though so I won't complain.

@CarolDm my math teacher in high school went to one of the Woodstock but not the original one. I remember he had a bag he carried around with his teaching supplies that said Woodstock on it. I think it was in 1994 or something. My computer has been using the computer to do her school work and usually is on it from the time she gets home to the time we go to bed so I likely won't get to use it until Friday when she is at her friends house.
