'Old woman' shoes

We are leaving for France in three more sleeps. We went to town today to do some last minute shopping. Vince had to go to the chiropractor then we picked up all the medications he’ll need for six weeks away. The chiropractor recommended that he buy one of those blow-up neck supports for use on the plane. I bought one last time we were in town. He also got a hair-cut. I bought quite a nice really warm jacket as the one I use at endurance rides was passed on by a friend and, as well as being a bit big for me, is a bit past being taken overseas. I also bought a pair of, according to Vince, ‘old-woman shoes’. We’re trying to travel lighter than usual. I’m taking sneakers and wanted something a little bit nicer in case Damian takes us to one of his jazz gigs. These aren’t flash or elegant but they’ll be slightly better than sneakers. And at my age, comfort is to be much applauded. The end is in sight.

I do not find sneakers comfortable at all, I also have comfortable shoes when we travel, comfortable but light, we both love to walk a lot.

@LadyDuck I've worn them around the house all morning and they haven't troubled me at all. Often when I get new shoes home it's like they've shrunk during the journey and are not so comfortable any more - but these are fine.

The shoes don't look too bad to me..it isn't like they are button up orthopedics or something..

They look like a very comfortable pair of shoes to me. You won't be pegged as wearing 'old-woman shoes' wearing those at all.

I have sneakers, boots and sandals. Nothing with a heel to it.

I've given up on heels now too. I don't want to break my neck at my age.

@JudyEv I had one pair of boots that I loved. They had about a 4 inch heel. I would be scared to even walk in that now and could run in those

They do a bit, don't they? The velcro fastenings are a good idea too. Thanks for the good wishes. Two more sleeps!

I don't see them as old-lady shoes! Certainly more fashionable than just sneakers - looks like they would go with all kinds of outfits. But yes, comfort is the main thing . . . I'm all for shoes with no heels!!

I am really happy with them. They're not nearly as 'old-womanish' as many I've seen.

@JudyEv I was not talking about the Velcro but the pattern. If there was velcro in those days then there would have been no nursery rhyme 'One two buckle my shoe'

Velcro fastenings are a great boon too aren't they? Especially for kids' shoes.

@crazyhorseladycx Once I used to take far too many clothes. I'm hoping my case will be a bit lighter this time.

Only two sleeps now and I have most things packed. We're trying to travel lighter this time. I'm only taking these shoes and sneakers for starters which is unusual for me.

Wow! Enjoy France in 3 sleeps. I like that phrase. I haven't heard it before. :-) Old woman shoes? Nah. I would wear those totally. I hate hurting feet and those look stylish and comfy

Those shoes are nice, and they seem comfortable. Didn't you find them in other colors? In red, blue, yellow, and even light pick would have been nice too!

Those look like comfortable Clark's shoes lol These days I agree with you, I am all about comfort and I wear all black, even black insole Converse sneakers because, yes, being all black they can pass for dressy if need be!!

The sneakers I'm taking are nearly all black but have the white Nike symbol (our son is right into Nikes). It's hardly noticeable. As you say black doesn't look nearly as casual as some of the coloured ones.

@JudyEv I never wear sneakers on a plane due to security checks. I like easy on and easy off shoes. You must be very excited by now with one more sleep to go.

I am perfectly happy with them and the friends we are going with have even more old-fashioned shoes so I'm really pleased with them. I wore them all morning in the house and they didn't hurt at all so I know I've made a good decision. Thanks for asking.
