We saw Notre Dame today

For some reason I can't add a photo at the moment. I'll try again later.
We’re now in Paris and while we have internet in this airBnB we probably won’t have on our house-boat. We have spent the day walking the streets, so to speak. We left the house about 9am looking for church that was having Mass.
As luck would have it, we found St Etiennes within a few minutes’ walk of our apartment. It was a very beautiful old building with a very lovely organ and a talented organist. After Mass, we had breakfast at a small café then walked into town to view Notre Dame. We were on the opposite side of the river when I took this photo. The scaffolding that is presently round part of the building has been partly destroyed. It will be difficult to remove. One bridge near the front of the cathedral was blocked off with armed guards, all of whom looked around 16.
Dozens of tourists, just like us, were busy taking photos of the building. So, until next time, take care.

I read that the restoration could take a century.

It is heartbreaking to see it. The national symbol of France had a very bad incident of fire. It might take a long time to restore it.

@arunima25 I wonder if they will need to change the structure when they repair it.

@JudyEv But I am glad that at least it is still standing and there are hope to repair it. It has been a national symbol of France for ages.

I hope you have a great time in Paris! I'll be there at the end of the month, although it will only be for a brief time. It's nice that you had the opportunity to see Notre Dame. Have they started any of the renovations yet from the fire, or are they still cleaning up the mess from the fire?

@JudyEv They have a lot of work cut out for them over the upcoming years. It won't be easy to clean up the mess and restore the cathedral back to its former glory.

@JudyEv Yeah, just a day or two ago they showed the inside on the news. They kept making a big deal of it on the network,,David Muir was the first American anchor allowed inside the building.

@JudyEv
I don´t think that it will ever stop being an icon for what it means to so many people and that is millions.
Good to see they are taking care of her.

I would imagine many people are taking pictures of the damage. Are they letting anyone in at all?

So happy you are having a great holiday! What a shame about this old Cathedral but I know it will be restored to its former glory. Sad the Louvre is slotted to be eventually used for another purpose. What a great Art Museum;

@MarymargII First, they'll need to remove the burnt scaffolding that was there when the fire occurred.
