Well That Wasn't What I Had Hoped to Hear!

Because of some blemishes on our credit history, we have been denied a mortgage loan. But, there is hope in the near future for us. So, we have to fix the broken past and hope that we are approved in the near future. The fixes are not huge so it does give me hope. But, because my husband has a huge loan on his truck, the loan for a home would be solely in my name. That being said, I am faced with the possibility that I would have to work for a longer period of time than I wanted to. After much thought I told my husband that I still planned on semi-retiring in August. It is something that I need to do. We are now looking a lot that has almost 6 acres of land and a double-wide home that is on an existing foundation. It has sewer, water, and electric on the property. The home would have to be demolished because it is in very poor condition. My husband said he would build a home from the ground up. There is a lot of prep that needs to be done before that could even be done. But, he tells me that it can be done. Because the price is so low on the property, and the need to demolish the home and cleaning up the property will cost us a chunk of change, the owner may take a lower offer just to get rid of the property. We shall see. So now to see what we can pull together for funds for the purchase of this property. It may be doable and a better option for us in the long/short run. Wish us luck. We will certainly need it.

My husband sees more promise in the land than I do. I see it as a lot of work.

@LadyDuck hubby would do most of the work. I would help with some. My back can't take a lot of lifting though.

The man spent hours online searching for house plans that would meet our needs. He found quite a few.

@Courtlynn I really am not getting my hopes up too high. Been down that road a time or two. Better to wait and see what happens.

Good luck with getting your credit report fixed, the property and saving money. It's hard to save money these days.

I wish you the best of luck with the property. Your husband must be very handy to do that, and there is nothing nicer than a home you can make into your own.

I hope that good luck is with you and that you are approved. Its such a seller's market in our province, I hope that the same doesn't hold true for your area and that you can negotiate the best deal for you.

We are still hopeful. However, I do plan on retiring and that would probably not set well with a lender. But, we have other options that we are looking into. Hopefully something will pan out.
