Anti Abortion Laws in Georgia

So let me start by saying I am a firm believer in your body, your decision. If it doesn't affect me then I have no right to tell you what to do with YOUR body. I know there are a lot of people who are pro life, that is until the baby is born, then they are on their own. The problem is these people think that EVERYONE getting an abortion is just some irresponsible heathen who would rather get pregnant then abort instead of using birth control which obviously is not always the case. There are many more reasons for why someone may want or HAVE to terminate a pregnancy such as rape, inability to care for a child (remember overpopulation is a thing and there are already so many children in need of loving homes in the world), medical complications for mother and/or child in which one or both will die at birth or the child won't have any kind of life after being born. There are so many reasons that ignorant people choose to ignore in order to believe that the only people who get abortions are horrible people using abortion as birth control. This new law in Georgia is a prime example to the extreme because now they are making it illegal to abort once a heartbeat is heard, the fetus is far from being an actual baby at this point and it is too early to be able to tell what kind of problems it will have if any. This alone is horrible because like I said before some people aren't able to provide the necessary means to raise a child and with so many kids already in the system waiting to be adopted, why would you want to add another? Another aspect of the law that I find absolutely appalling is that a woman suffering from miscarriage can now be liable for second degree murder for something she can't control and that probably has her suffering enough by losing a child that she planned on having. Where is the justice in that? It is disgusting that people think they have a right to tell someone what to do with their own body with no regard to them as a person. I have family and friends who are against abortion and we agree to disagree on the subject so let us all be adults here and discuss this: What are your thoughts on abortion? How do you feel about these laws in Georgia? Have you ever had to face the decision or do you know someone who has had to face the decision between keeping or terminating a pregnancy?

How would a miscarriage be murder, no matter where you are in a pregnancy a miscarriage is your body rejecting a baby. Over all I don’t agree with abortions but I am a person that understand it’s not my right to say what is right for another women. I’m not in her places so I can’t choice for her ehatvis or isn’t write. It should be in her hands what she thinks and feel will be right as long as she doesn’t feel regret for the choice she makes. Regret it’s self is hard to deal with. I do think there should be a point in which it isn’t okay to abort a baby. I don’t think it’s write for someone that is 35 weeks to go oh hey I don’t want this baby any more let me about instead of just saying I can’t do this let me try to find this baby a home.

No I absolutely agree. I believe the usual law I have seen before was once you hit 28 weeks which is about 7 months it is illegal. New York has the right idea with it being illegal at 28 weeks unless something medical happens in which the child or mother wont survive.

@IvySaysHi from my understand it’s second trimester whichever starts at week 20 week 28 hour in your final trimesters and babies are typically viable meaning being able to live outside of the womb as early as 23 weeks which there is complications to babies healthy. I know the viable age because I’m a preemie mom. 2 out of 3 kids where born before full term.

@ShyBear88 maybe it was 20 weeks. I will have to look it up again but my point being there should be no late term termination unless some medical emergency as I've described before where it is better to save the mother over having her die bringing a baby into the world that will not survive birth either

It is a hard decision and I don't think many go for an abortion on a whim. The main effect seems to be to criminalise women and medical just to appeal to fundamental sections of the electorate.

Exactly. I have read of other ways in which that small percentage of those who do abort simply to avoid pregnancy can be potentially eliminated. One idea would be for males to have vasectomies, which are reversible, and once they are ready to make a family then have the procedure reversed. Now again this is another matter of your body your choice so men have a right to refuse this option and instead just use protection as anyone who is sexually active and not looking to produce should do. Not to mention the protection from diseases.

Abortion is a heavy topic. If there's special circumstances for it like if the mother is too young, medical, rape/incest, I'm for abortion. But otherwise, it's best to put the baby up for adoption if they can't take care of it.

I can see where you are coming from and I agree with the special circumstances but when you say to put up for adoption don't you worry about what kind of things the child may have to face being in the system? There are those in positions of power who harm children, those who take in children for money and neglect the kids or worse. There are already hundreds of thousands of kids in the system and many end up being in it all the way through until they reach adulthood. Add on top of that the money needed to care for all these children when the government keeps cutting budgets for these types organizations. What quality of care do they receive then? I respect your view but this is why I can't agree with that part.

@IvySaysHi I agree. If they're underage, it's up to their parents or legal guardian to decide.

My sister had to terminate a pregnancy that she very much wanted due to a medical complication. The fetus wasn't going to survive. I believe in a woman's right to choose.

I'm sorry she had to experience that. It is cases like this that baffle me as to why people choose to blindly ban abortions as if the only reason women get it done is due to irresponsibility

Miscarriage is not in our hand. Those who are raped should have the right to punish that man. Even he must be punished. But in case of abortion, I think it depends on the situation. But it is also considered a murder.
