Movie Review - The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

Based on a true story. It takes place in the African country of Malawi. It's a very poor country and the weather doesn't cooperate when it comes to planting and harvesting, so the people are hungry. The boy has the opportunity to go to school, but his parents can't afford the fees. However, he finds a way to learn without learning. I know that probably didn't make sense. Because his parents couldn't pay the fees, he couldn't be taught, so he taught himself. He figured out how to create a windmill from junk just by reading and scrounging in the junkyard. It's a story about corrupt government and extreme poverty but also about hope. The story is half English and half subtitle, but it didn't bother me. It's an excellent story and won the BAFTA award. I give this one a solid two thumbs up. It's on Netflix. Have you seen it? Did you like it? Thanks for reading.

This story sounds so sad. There are many poor people everywhere in the world and many have hungry people.

Yes, they do. However, this isn't a sad story. It's a story of hope and the strength of the people.

@Nevena83 Maybe not in themselves, but when one person does, it gives the rest the hope and strength they need to persevere.

I have not seen the movie, surely pretty depressing, the Republic of Malawi is among the world's least-developed countries. Malawi climate is not as bad as other parts of Africa, but they lack infrastructures.

It's not depressing at all. It gives a stark look at life there, but it does it in a way that shows the strength of the people who live there.

It's a wonderful movie. It's a Netflix Original so you won't be able to get it anywhere else unless you find it at a library or can buy it.

@just4him I do have Netflix but I also have lousy Internet (I live in the country so I have a choice of a few sattelite services and nothing else and they are all the same level of lousyness) so NetFlix is just frustrating. You get sometimes up to a minute of what your watching and then it buffers for a couple of minutes. When I finally get decent Internet, I'll go back to watching NetFlix.

"To learn without learning" I like this phrase. Just like approving without thinking. My youngest son is a Netflix subscriber. I will have the opportunity to watch this movie.
