Don't Hate Me Because I Sin Differently Than You Do

Sin is a very misunderstood thing. It isn't a laundry list of "do's and don'ts" like most people think. Yes, there are some "do's and don'ts, but it's a pretty short list. The word sin doesn't mean to break the law or do things someone else doesn't like. Sin means knowingly rebelling against God. We all sin at one time or another. The entire purpose of the Atonement of Jesus Christ is so that we can overcome our sinful nature. Because he took on the pain and sorrow caused by the sins we commit, we are able to return to Heaven, because we will be forgiven. Another problem that comes with our sinful nature is using the sins of others as an excuse to hate them. This makes no sense because hate itself is a sin. Yes, if we break laws we can be prosecuted and fined or sent to prison, that is part of living in a community. But no one's sins can be used as an excuse to hate them. In fact, as Christians we are commanded to forgive them. So no, there is no excuse for a Christian to hate anyone. We don't have to like them, we don't have to be friends with them, we don't even need to be part of someone else's life. On the other hand, we are told to pray for them and love them. In other words, the only thing we can't do, is hate them. Accepting Christ as our Savior doesn't put any responsibilities on anyone else. It only puts responsibilities on ourselves. With salvation comes the responsibility of living up to our sacred covenants with Christ.

I am not religious, but that does not mean that I donĀ“t have my ethics. In this moment of my life, I think that the only person I hate is the worker who is taking too much with his work. Still, I ask him laughing if he knows that I hate him. And he says laughing that he knows.

I believe that we do not need to be friends with everyone but that does not mean we should hate them.

I think you may have just made God make sense. At least a little. It's too much to go into in a comment but maybe I'll do a whole post about it someday.

I always remind myself of this -- what would Jesus do if He was in my shoes? when something happens good or bad -- I always try to think about this

I do not hate anyone and I say my morning and nighttime prayers and let the Lord guide me. Being a struggling writer I was a bit anxious about a job I was hoping to get to do. Sure enough, I said my prayers and I got the job and was able to write it up and I said, Thank you, Lord, because I knew He would provide. I am a good girl, I am.

Congratulations on getting the job! The other side of that prayer coin is having the faith to accept when the answer is no.

They say that hate is emotions, it's hard sometimes not to hate someone who hurt you, because it is a natural feeling.

Yes, hate is natural but it is never positive. Hate always destroys if we let it.

@Nevena83 Yes, it is tempting to give in to hate. It sometimes gets the best of us.

@ParaTed2k Yes, I agree with you, hatred destroys us, but it is difficult to deal with that emotion.

I don't think I have ever hated anyone, I don't like everyone but I have never wished harm to anyone else. Loving our neighbors is one of the big commandments.

As a catholic i think the lack of catechism makes others doesn't understand how the words of God are taught. Yes we are commanded to forgive and love them. It's not easy as it sounds but now when you feel not so young anymore you tend to desire peace more than anything. And that means to prevent hating others.

My mother always cautioned me about hate. She wouldn't even allow me to use the word. She said it was a very strong word, that I should not use it, and if I stoked hatred the person I would hurt the most would be ME! I thought it was wise advice so I followed it.

Love your enemies. Do good to those who persecute you. If Jesus could forgive those who nailed Him to the cross, we should forgive those who come against us in any way, even slandering us and treating us below their status. I know I'm not perfect, but there is no one I hate and many people I dislike.

Hate is such a strong negative word. I stay away from it personally. I have hurt feelings I portal will never get over. I have forgiven others for the wrong they have done. Forgiveness is for us.

As we cannot love everyone, it is normal to have negative sentiments toward others. This does not mean that we should hurt them.

I believe there is a thin line between not liking and hating which many people crosses.
