Lunch didn't go to plan

On the way back home yesterday, I got hungry. We ended up trying to stop at a Huddle House but it was closed. Across the street was a Denny's, the same Denny's that I'd been in as a child several times. Apparently they were under-staffed on very short notice. We think that the cook may have quit as the woman said it was a backup in the kitchen. Well, we ended up leaving because they didn't seat any of the people in front of us despite previous customers paying for their food and leaving. We ended up going to a restaurant further down the highway. Our waiter seemed flummoxed when I asked for corn tortillas instead of flour. I thought he seemed a bit surprised when I asked for horchata, but I can't be sure about that. Either way, he was not attentive to us at all but was very attentive to a group of young ladies. My date had to get up to get his own tea, and we ended up going to the front to get our bill taken care of, our waiter hadn't been back to our table since our food had been sat down. Needless to say we won't be going back there anytime soon. Pictured is a photograph of the previous night's dinner, which was much more delicious with an attentive waitress.

I am sorry you had a bad service. A good waiter and an attentive service is part of the pleasure to eat out.

I think the boy was young and more enamored with the girls his age. It may hae also been his first job. We didn't feel as if any of the waitstaff cared, however. The manager didn't really offer an apology either.

@LadyDuck My date made a valid point. It seems the only person who cared in the restaurant was the young man who sat us.

@ScribbledAdNauseum The manager should have apologized, this is not the right way to make more clients.

I think he was enamored by the girls. He wanted to impress them. He was also young, around 16 or so, this may have been his first job.

@Nevena83 Yes, I guess I can't blame him so much, but he has to learn that he's at work and he needs to focus on that. Especially as he is a waiter, he doesn't make very much money unless he gets tips.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Oh, yeah, that's the reason, he's puberty now, so he's acting like that.

That always gets on my nerves in a restaurant when they wait on someone first who was there after you. However, I have to keep in mind they are probably doing the best they can do..especially if it is busy. Your situation sounds frustrating though..and the pictured meal looks delish!

I give waitstaff the benefit of the doubt. This guy was beyond that. he kept going to another table near us but not ever coming to check on us. I'm not sure why. My date and I both went to the bathroom. The date mentioned that the waitstaff didn't even try to let him by or act like they should try to get out of the way, or even apologize for being in the way. When I went to the restroom, one of the waitresses threw their used paper towel on the ground instead of in the trash can. The trash can was in no way full. I knew it was them because they were at the sink when I went into the stall.

It's a bummer when you don't get good service at a restaurant. The food in your picture looks good

I mean, mexican restaurants usually have a less attentive waitstaff than any other place, but this kid (he had to be 16 or a little older) just didn't care. He didn't get a tip from us either.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It does sound like a disaster meal but how was your date aside from that?

That was very good. We had just come back from spending the night in the mountains.

@Hannihar Yes, though I had not intended to stay so I wasn't exactly prepared. I had to buy myself a nightshirt , toothbrush, toothpaste and hairbrush. I think with this guy, I will come slightly more prepared.
