Have you ever tried to do Origami? It's the art of folding paper into shapes. I think most people have. When you were a child did you ever make a paper airplane? If you have than you have done a form of origami. When I was still teaching we would have a club meeting once a month on a half day. The teachers shoes something to teach or show the kids and the kids would sign up for the different clubs. One semester I taught origami. They learned how to make birds, animals of all kinds, flowers, and such. Some of the kids were really into it. The loved making a piece of art out of a piece of paper. As for the boys, most of them were thrilled to be making airplanes and flying them. I was always happy to be able to interest the students in something new.

I spent some time at a Danish/Japanese school in my country and one of the subjects was origami. I don't know how many of them I still remember, but it was a lot of fun and some of the Japanese students were extremely good at it. They helped the rest of us.

@HazySue It is a nice hobby. When I was working in a kindergarden I taught the children some of them. They especially loved the frogs.

@Porcospino There are so many little animals they can make. It also helps them with hand to eye coordination.

To me it is a relaxing hobby. I love seeing all of those pieces of paper turn into little flowers, animals, and cute little things.

I don't think that I graduated from paper airplanes either!! I wonder just how many different "things" you can actually create??

I can remember making hundreds of origami flowers out of tissue paper for our high school prom. They looked so pretty when hung.

I remember being in elementary school and the boys making paper airplanes out of loose leaf paper and flying them around the classroom. Other than paper airplanes I never tried to make anything else but have always been fascinated by origami and how you can turn a simple piece of paper into art.

It is a fun activity. One of the first things I did was show them how to make a couple of different hats.

It takes practice. You have to start real simple and work yourself up to the decorative type of pattern.
