Is my career as a YouTube phenomenon over?

Thanks to the hard work of MyLotters Vanny and DJ, I have posted several music videos to YouTube. I am internet challenged, but Vanny and DJ knew, respectively, how to add pictures to videos and how to actually post to Youtube. I sent some of my songs to Vanny, we argued about pictures, insulted each others' intelligence, and eventually got several videos made, which were sent to DJ, who knew how to post them. In the early days (about two years ago), they were a surprising hit, and my Pancho and Lefty (a Townes Van Zandt song made famous by Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, and others) accumulated over 5,000 views and some nice comments. But I think my star is fading. Our latest video, a John Prine song recorded "raw," with no overdubs or other technical wizardry, is getting only a hit or two per day, and many of the others have "stalled" as well. What should I do? I occasionally give out business cards to people on the road (on my way to Montana), saying "Check out my music." They smile sympathetically and pat me on my balding head. But only about 1 in 10 actually leave a comment. I dress in rags, go to local parking lots, and clean peoples' headlights for free before doing the same. Same result. What's a mediocre musician to do? OK, I'll post a link to our very first video. Most who know me have already seen it. I play all instruments in the video. But if you don't know me, like the video (even if you're lying), subscribe to my channel (DJ's channel, actually), and invite me over to dinner. I'll attach the first video we ever made. I wrote it for a bluegrass band that I didn't play in, but they (so far as I know) never performed or recorded it.

Thanks! But "aargh," I posted the wrong song. "Hello in There" is our most recent. I'll replace it with our first.

@LadyDuck I wonder why comments would go into hiding. Not worth fretting about, though. Thanks for checking it out!

I'd love to invite you to dinner! We could discuss math teaching for all ages, weird things that happens in school and why there should be horses everywhere :-) Do you have a car with snorkel? There's a big ocean. Drive through it, cross the Atlantic rift and take north.

I'm there! Can I bring my guitar? If I take wrong turn, and wind up in Sweden or Denmark, I'm not that far away, right? I'm off to Iowa tomorrow (I'm driving) for a college reunion. Should be fun.

@TheHorse If you end up Denmark (very flat, lot of red and white flags and bacon) you just take a left turn. To get to Sweden you have to go through Denmark or Norway first. If there's lot of volcanos, you turned to fast and ended up on Iceland. They're nice, but don't tell them you're a horse. Foreign horses are not allowed in the country. College reunion is nice! Is Iowa far away? Distances in the US are often a bit like US food portions: big :-) And of course you can bring your guitar! You can also use the piano as much as you like. Recorder? French horn? Lur? One of my 8 Jews harps?

@Torunn Is it true that Iceland is green, while Greenland is icy? Anyway, I'll try to wait until I get to Italy or Germany before I head North. If I wind up in Libya, I'll turn left and try to go supersonic. But I've never had my old truck above 95 mph before.

Maybe you need a change of scenery. Tim Armstrong said screw the record label. I am taking a break and went on a two to three year excursion to see the world. Tiger Army did the same thing and came back with some of neatest older but more modern sounding music I ever heard. Its always about reinventing yourself and evolving whether people hear it or not is one thing but they sure won't hear it if you do not hear it. This is so different to the attitude they had when they came out. It pissed people off to a degree but now people starting to see it and are like damn that is pretty neat. How they got all of that just from taking some time for their self to make sure they staying true to their self.

@TheHorse Exactly, both those guys well paid and that makes a huge difference, but maybe you can do it in a smaller more affordable way for you. Something to think about anyway.

I'm thinking of taking a break from all of my jobs and bands and doing some traveling. But will I have the "nerve" to do it?

@crossbones27 I do want to include Europe in my travels. Whenever I go there, I'm reminded how "young" the United States is (an "old" building here was built in the 1800s), and how different/same people are around the world.

I am sure I have watched them all and as far as I recollect, I have subscribed. You`re always welcome to dinner, if its smack dab in the summer time, it could be fresh from the earth to the dinner table. Time for you to sing a new song, maybe one you have written, then post it for more fame.

He needs to add romance... by not having any beautiful women with interesting clothes and make up and flowers, he has banished half the mankind. What does he expect? The least he can do is come up with ice creams and pastries songs, so that young kids and foodies will be drawn. Or perhaps a zombie song.

I have watched yours and they're very good. Just share the links on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp status... And paste the link on Facebook music pages. And yes, join some organisation... Which do the same work
