Wondering how to consistently reach about 17 cents a day

I came across a discussion here where a mylotter was asking how to make $1/day. I'd like to know how to make at least around 20 cents a day, or more like 17 cents, as that's the daily minimum needed to get to $5 when the month is over.
Seems that just posting a discussion (or two), which I try to do when I log in, is not enough to potentially make 17 cents because it may not get a lot of interaction. And even if it does there is no guarantee 17 cents will be reached either.
I know we have to respond to others to have them respond to us... but that doesn't mean they will respond back.
At any rate, there must be an approximate number of responses we should leave, and an approximate number of discussions we should write daily to potentially get to that seventeen cents when the day is over...
Reaching seventeen cents in one day should be a piece cake but not for this NYC girl.

What I do, to make $.35-.40 per day is post at least 2 discussions. Follow everyone who follows me. Respond to everyone's discussion that I follow. And I keep the computer on all day and check it occasionally and respond right away to comments. I'll have $12 or so this month. I had $21 last month. BTW, I follow you.
Another way is to have a good friend here on MyLot and have a long conversation back and forth. It's enjoyable, you get to know someone really well, and you earn $.

@lovebuglena I think it helps to hook up with people and get to know them. Follow and be followed. Then you consistently comment on their discussions and them on yours.

Don`t worry about your discussion, comment and like everyone else`s. If people don`t know you they won`t read you. Its not hard to make .50 to 1.00 with just a couple hours a day. I do one in the morning and one at night, sometimes I do a mid day post if I am taking a break.

I'm at $ 4:58 and only started 8 discussions this month and that's what I'm averaging about 17 cents a day. The rest is commenting on others posts. If I started 1 discussion a day I would probably reach $10 but I don't want to work too hard.

@lovebuglena That's great! With one discussion a day and getting at least 10 comments then 17 cents a day should not be difficult. Visit and respond to the discussions of everyone that comments on your posts. If that doesn't work then go to the most recent discussions section and also comment to as many as you have time there.

They days I've made more than 20 cents, I've found someone to "chat" with and had long discussions with a few people. For me it's tricky finding someone who's here at the same time and interested in more or less the same stuff.
I also tried to answer lot of discussions to see what happens, it's difficult to figure out who will respond and keep the discussion going.

@lovebuglena Well, that depends on who started the discussion and what you are discussing, doesn't it?
If you respond to someones discussion about films and go on discussing with them about books, politics or experimental opera, I can't see the harm in that.
I've been told that some posters get upset if you start discussing with someone else in their thread about something else. I don't really understand why that should be wrong, but each to their own. So I drift around discussing all kinds of stuff when I find someone who wants to do it in their own or my discussions.

@Torunn If someone wrote about films then switching to talking about politics or books, etc. in the response thread is okay if it in some way relates to those films. Otherwise, it has nothing to do with that discussion and should then just be discussed in private messages or in a discussion that is on those topics.

Having a conversation in a discussion response thread can be complicated because it has to be on topic and enough times there is only so much you can discuss. And switching gears in that same response thread to something else shouldn't really be done.

It shouldn't take that much time and effort to reach 17 cents. 
And yet it's not easy to do. I just checked and this month I have not reached 17 cents even once.

I am not one of these people that will stress myself or tire myself out trying to increase my earnings and get to the minimum. It will not be worth it. I get what I get but of course wanna be able to get to the minimum in one month and on a regular basis.

It's actually very simple.
First of all, though: "there must be an approximate number of responses we should leave, and an approximate number of discussions we should write daily
NO, NO, NO! Haven't you read the Earnings Program FAQs? You earn absolutely NOTHING for just posting responses and discussions! You ONLY earn anything when someone else interacts with what you have posted in some way. The more interactions other people make with you, the more you will earn. Of course, people being what they are, the more you interact with others, the more likely it is that they'll want to interact with you, so responding to other people's discussions and commenting on their responses in your discussions does matter (though it may not earn you a cent).
Right? All you need in order to earn seventeen cents a day is to write your discussions and titles in such a way that, say, around 20 people will want to open and read them. It helps, of course, if they like and respond to them as well!
Now, is that too hard?

I know our responses don't make us money and that it's the responses back to them that do. But if we don't leave responses we earn nothing... So if I leave say two responses as apposed to say twenty responses (without writing a discussion for example) then I will earn next to nothing and will earn much more potentially if I leave twenty responses because more people can reply back.

Goals about the number of discussions or responses aren't really useful, because you don't know how much interaction you are going to receive if you write x discussions and x responses. You could write a lot and earn tiny amounts.
Sometimes I don't post any discussions at all and I still earn. I think it helps to have long conversations. Find people who want to talk and talk to many different people.

@lovebuglena That also happens to me. Sometimes people find my old discussions and respond to them. I don't mean really old discussions, but discussions that were posted some days or a week ago.

There are times when I earn something without even logging into mylot because people respond on a previous discussion or response of mine.

@Porcospino It is also possible to get a response to a discussion written months or even years ago. If someone searches for a phrase or keyword your (very old) discussion may come up and they may be interested in it.

@db20747 Thank you for clarifying. If I leave a response and someone replies to it I will reply back if I feel there is something to say or add. Sometimes I may put my two cents in to a response thread between another mylotter and the author of the discussion but I try not to do that often because that can be annoying to others.

@lovebuglena this phone is typing double!! That should be responses to responses in discussions!! That is respond to other peoples responses in a discussion!! This makes commenting much quicker!!

You can't know if a person will interact with you or not before you start responding or commenting. I am not here solely for the money of course but I'd still like to get the minimum on a monthly basis.

A miracle happened yesterday. I made about 53 cents. I was very surprised to see such a number. Has never happened before.
