Hi all. Good day everyone. Today my discussion is about , the words in English which we usually find it hard to pronounce correctly. As for me, phenomenon; untranslatabilty; colonel, procrastination; entrepreneur... are few of those English words I find it difficult to pronounce. Now it's your turn, fellow members. I guess that you have trouble with the words you mention because they are ones which you don't use every day and because most of them are long (but actually quite regular in their spelling). The odd one out is 'colonel', of course, but as long as you realise that it's pronounced exactly like 'kernel', you should be able to master it. You can play a musical game with the longer words, which is quite fun. Break them down into their syllables and rhythm as follows: fen-OM-en-on UN-trans-late-a-BIL-i-ty pro-CRAS-tin-ate ON-truh-preh-nur Then say each one over and over (until it sounds silly), whilst walking, if you like, and untill they begin to sound like a railway train going over points. The main stress is where I have used capital letters. It's a shame that I can't easily show the actual rhythm (in notes and half notes), but you shouldn't find that too hard to work out, especially if you can hear someone (either someone you know or maybe online) say the words for you.

I will be so cautious with the word "Suite" .. What I'd learned from childhood is different and what should be pronounced is different...

I am from the US so the words you are having an issue with I don't but I do have an issue with this one...Statistics. I'm not sure why but I always have, after about 49ish years of speaking English I still can't say it correctly.

Today I was reading the text of my younger son's history and found that he is having difficulty to pronounce 'sculpture'. I laughed loudly on hearing his reading, on repeated failure of saying the word correctly. I found so many words in his book which are very difficult to pronounce. Numismatics, Shahjahannama, Prithvirajraso are some of them

They're hard to say for the first timers who meet that words. But once they are used to them, they're not difficult to say or pronounce.

I've seen all but that second one. Even my brain had trouble with it. Otherwise, at the moment I can't think of any words I have trouble with.
