Is it too early to start thinking about buying for Christmas?

I know that some start buying as son as January, but it won't be long before "Christmas in July" time. Are you already thinking about Christmas Presents or are you more worried about summer and fall birthdays? I guess you could say I am not worried, but I am thinking about both the birthdays coming up and Christmas. If you celebrate, are you already putting money back towards purchases?

I buy things when I see them, then hope I don't forget about them!

I can't do that, nowhere to put anything. I start buying around the Ber months.

That's when the store starts marking it down. We have plenty of Christmas wrapping paper here though. I prefer bags over wrapping paper though. I'm horrible at wrapping presents.

Well that's good, is the weather holding up where you are? Nicer days for the work to be done?

No, but I really should be doing that. Christmas will be here before you know it.

Yes, exactly! I want to be able to afford some more things as well. I am already thinking of how to save and / or when to start spending on things. If I do spend on things, where would I put it? That kind of stuff.

@simone10 One year I had things sitting in front of my television because I had no where else to put it. I think it was like that for a month.

@ScribbledAdNauseum yeah, I know what you mean. I don't know where I would store anything right now .

I never give Christmas a thought, until the middle of November. Birthdays? We have so many to remember, it's hard to keep up!

You have a lot of birthdays towards the end of the year?

@kobesbuddy December seems like a pretty expensive month for your family then.

Every year I tell myself I am going to buy throughout the year for Christmas. Ans every year I find myself scrambling to buy on the 24th of December. Ugh. I will never get it right.

I don't wait until the very last minute, but I usually don't start purchasing until late October and early November.

I don't want to think about the holidays now. I have birthdays to attend to first anyway.

I have several Birthdays to worry about as well, but I like to be prepared, atleast mentally if not physically. I am really horrible at picking out gifts and feel like the more time I spend thinking about it, the more likely the gift will be great.

I usually don't really start thinking about Christmas much before December. Sometimes, the end of November. But really not before then.

I don't usually buy until the Ber months (and usually not until atleast the end of October) but I will be thinking about it for long before then. I don't know why, but I've been like that for several years now.

I don't celebrate, some people buy gifts after Christmas and they give it along with the new year.

ah yes, I've heard of people giving gifts at new years instead of Christmas. I dont' celebrate it for it's religious significance. I celebrate it as a way to come together with friends and family and enjoy each other.

I am one of those who start thinking of next Christmas right after the current Christmas. But I'm really not as good about it as I had been in previous years. I am aiming for smaller, simpler gifts . . . everyone around me does not really need more "stuff". I normally don't save up for the gifts, but it is in the yearly budget (loosely).

@ScribbledAdNauseum I would love food related gifts . . . that is practical yet thoughtful - it doesn't have to be expensive. Even a simple basket of fruit or jar of jam or a plate of cookies kinda thing. I wish my circle of people that we give gifts to were more appreciative of that kind of gift . . . but they are more into "things".

@much2say I would be happy if someone wrapped a $1.00 pack of reese's and gave them to me. Honestly, it's more the thought behind the gift that matters. I was going to make pumpkin jam last year but I didn't, and I doubt I'll do it this year either. I might find some at a farmer's market and get it to gift it though.

People dont' really need things, do they? Everyone is buying for themselves now. That's one reason why I like to give food related gifts, that way they can spend their money on themselves and perhaps have one or two meals on me. I don't have a lot of money to spend ever, I should probably be budgeting a bit better. I dont' spend much as it is.

I think a lot of people start putting away money about now. Of course, a lot of people are also saving for vacations too.

I have two savings accounts. One is linked to my checking account so everytime I spend money it takes $1.00 and puts it into my checking. I need to save more in the other one, which is online based and is more for vacation and expenses.

July might be too early for me. I would usually scavenge for bargains around September and continue until November. I hate shopping during the holiday rush. Though I do enjoy the holiday clearance sales after Christmas and New Year's.

Not really thinking about Christmas yet, my Niece could go into labor anyway now that’s kind of our focus right now!

Oh yes, that would definitely be my focus. You've already had a baby shower for her?
