Our son in Ireland is a games fanatic and now has quite a collection. Board games have come a long way since Monopoly, Chinese checkers and Scrabble. He has several which are known as ‘co-operative games’ so rather than playing against each other, players pool their thinking and resources to beat the game itself. However, the game in the photo is called Flamme Rouge and each person is out to beat the others in a bike race. Each player has two bikes with riders – a Rouleur and a Sprinteur. The idea is to get round the track in first place. You can see the cute little bikes in the bottom left corner. The track consists of a number of pieces, some of which are straight while others are right-angles or 45 degree bends. There are also hills and descents which complicate your travel. This is one game we just might buy for ourselves when we get home.

Some games can be played online but it's not quite the same. Occasionally I do a jigsaw online too.

I'm not much of a bike rider, I probably would crash into some bushes or something! haha I'll take the game of Life instead....in that game you navigate the board in a car!

It's hard to explain but you have cards which tell you how many squares to move at a time. You try to be the first one to get your bike across the finish line.

Basically you turn up cards which tell you how far to move your bikes round the track. It's hard to explain but there is a good instruction sheet with the game which makes it easy.
