The American state of Nevada really surprised me on this road trip!

I have always thought of Nevada as a state to "get through" on my way to Montana, Iowa, or Chicago.
I usually travel in August, and by that time, Nevada is hot, dry, and brown, with a handful of snow-capped mountains in the distance.
On this trip, Nevada was different. The hills were still green, the mountains were majestic, and the air was cool, with temperatures in the 70s F.
Plus I wowed two girls, about 9 and 11, who seemed to think I was somebody famous. They watched my every move and were at the window as I climbed into my truck. This occurred at an Arby's in Elko. Maybe Vanny's videos are getting around.
I'll post a picture of a mountain range I drove by in Nevada. The mountains still looked majestic as I was on my way home.
I'm going to research how tall those mountains are. Some of the "passes" I drove over in the high desert were at 6,000 to 7,000 feet.

@BelleStarr I have been to Vegas, but I pass though Reno more often. I am a good poker payer, so I generally break even on the poker machines and get a few free drinks (but I tip well).

Some of the higher elevations in Nevada can be quite pretty. Also, the red rock areas are nice too.

@TheHorse \We were trying to get Brooklyn to poop, she was just a puppy and did not want to poop in a foreign land. We did not have Kai yet and Tristan was still king. lol He could barely walk but they clearly needed out of the car because driving us crazy. Something about take your dogs and get the hell off our property before we shoot you. Not really their property but was not going to argue with crazy Mormons. Brooklyn would not poop until we got to Iowa. She was so happy when she finally went and was just like a little kid , ran to my sister I did it. I am a big girl now. Believe it or not think that poop relieved a lot of stress. We we were worried something was wrong with her. Now she will poop anywhere. On the Presidents lawn if took her there.

I admit, to me Nevada has been what you said... A state to get through. However yes there are some amazing places there.

Nevada actually pretty neat as long as you stay away from all major cities. Has some neat history and I always found funny how much nicer people are when they not from the city. 90 percent of them, there is some crazy outback people that people should stay away from. The ones that say I can make you squeal like a pig.

@TheHorse Its pretty interesting and makes you rethink things. There was some ranchers in Utah, those guys just wanted us away from them. They were not nice at all but sometimes people have a reason.

Such a beautiful photo! We've talked about going on a vacation "out west" to maybe Nevada, Wyoming, South Dakota? Beautiful scenery, for sure. Tell us more about your trip.

I haven’t been there yet. I’m hoping to get there, probably/maybe/prayerfully next year for a western vacation.

That is some beautiful countryside, pony!
I've always tried to get through Kansas as quickly as I could and during the night, if at all possible. That has to be the most boring place in the entire world! It is totally flat with nothing to give it any character! (It was so bad I actually stopped and took a photo of two trees standing in the middle of a corn field and wrote on the bottom of the photo; "Not everything in Kansas is ugly!")
