You can say that pretzels are only good with beer but not so fast buddy! I have had pretzels, those tasty salted and crunchy twists of pure satisfaction by themselves, and they are something you can keep for a long time without them going stale on you. I had this bag of pretzels for over 6 months and they are still as good as the day I bought them. Birds like them too I suppose. This is one survival food that costs hardly nothing and is good dipped in mustard, peanutbutter, or to have with a bowl of good old homemade chili. To learn about the origins of the common pretzel take a look at this article from the link below. I prefer the pretzel that has a good solid crunch to it.
Today I found out the origin of pretzels. A common origin story of pretzels is that they were created by a monk around 610 in Italy. According to The History of Science and Technology, the monk baked strips of dough that he folded into a shape resembling a

I have always loved pretzels. And the big soft ones you get in the mall, haven't had them in years but they were so good with cream cheese.

Sure would be nice to have one with soft cream cheese. I also favor an onion bagel right about now.

Man, you make me want to have a soft pretzel now. I have not had one in ages, but always liked them. For me, just plain with those big salt chunks on them. Yummy stuff.

@lookatdesktop I have never put cream cheese on a soft pretzel, but now that it has been mentioned...hmm.

The Germans totally disagree on the fact that they were created by a monk in Italy. One thing is sure Pretzels are not at all popular in Italy, but they are in Germany and the Germans brought Pretzels to the United States.

@wolfgirl569 , Yep, but every once in a while, you know, not all the time. I sometimes wish I had a large chocolate chip cookie or toasted onion bagel with cream cheese spread over it. Yum yum. But yes, very caloric.

I want to try one of those big ones, salted and crunchy and chewy. I bet they are the best.

They are good for a quick snack. I like them and I want to share them with the birds but my wife is against me doing that.

I am a pretzel fan as well. Does Frito Lay have any outlet stores down there? In Central Pennsylvania they have some pretzel factory outlets where you can get like a huge bag of seconds for maybe 2 bucks.

Don't really know, but yea, that would be pretty cool. Hot pretzels right out of the oven.

Well, it is a fact that pretzels are made from flour, and they are a high carbohydrate. So you don't want to eat a lot of them at any given time. They are a snack food and not a mainstay food.

I don't think we who need to diet should indulge too often on snack food but moreover not to eat a lot of what is actually JUNK FOOD. I think they make yogurt coated pretzels and chocolate coated ones. I guess, but moreover, a once in a while large chewy hot ready made pretzel is actually a better once in a while snack choice.
