I hope noone actually follows this advice about mountain lions

I won't share the image here, but I'll tell you what it said. First, it warned that while mountain lions are seldom seen, they are very dangerous. Then it went on to explain what you should do in the event of an attack. The first piece of advice was to turn them in the wrong direction. The graphic made it seem as simple as pointing, but I imagine it wouldn't be so simple as that. Then it suggested giving the mountain lion a bath, as cats hate those. Though not all cats truly hate baths and so this is like a flip of the coin, you can't be quite sure what you'll get. The third and final suggestion was to get out a laser pointer (because we all carry those, don't we?) and lure the big cat off a cliff. I've never seen a mountain lion up close, and I hope I never do. They usually stay away from people from what I've been told. However, if I do see one I certainly won't be following any of the advice given here. Have you ever seen a mountain lion up close?

Humm how neat and yeah they a neat species because they so unpredictable. Only thing we do know about big cats is if they want to kill you they will. Leopards, rare indeed, but scientists were amazed how water did not faze them one bit and actually on occasion use it if they see what they perceive as threat. That would be a bad day let me stick to this river so I feel more safe a damn leopard comes flying at me and bites my face off. This world gets you every time.

I have seen a lot of videos lately of big cats being socialized and treated as pets... I don't know that I would ever trust that type of animal, they are so unpredictable.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Cats hate being constricted. Most of them anyway. Have to let them be to see what they about.

@crossbones27 Yes, and I guess if you get a big cat at a young enough age, they adapt to being constricted early. Even so, I just don't see myself getting a big cat as a pet.

None of that is going to work, there are Mountain Lions here and if you tried any of those things you could get yourself seriously hurt, the advice some people give make you shake your head!

This was meant to be satire, but of course not everyone is going to see it that way. Which makes it dangerous.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, people will believe anything and I’m afraid some would try it and get themselves killed!

@Michellekidwell I don't think there's anything any of us can do about it though. People will do stupid things, with or without suggestion.

No I have never seen one close up, and like you hope I never do, I just wouldn't go in their territory.

Sometimes they cross into ours and it's unavoidable. I've not seen a mountain lion, but there have been bear sightings near me.

You'd be surprised who would believe this and try it.

Until my dying hours, I will never see one. Because we are far from the mountain.

It was a good thing we don't have large predators in the Philippines. Seeing a mountain lion is an interesting experience, given that it is not after your throat. That thing is far stronger than the biggest German Shepherd.

Yes, they are very strong beasts and can be very dangerous.I believe I read about a story where the family dog was nearly killed saving the life of a child.

@Mamerto32 I could imagine living in such a place. I love the mountains. I do think the mountain lions stay up in higher elevations and rarely go to places that people inhabit. I was watching a youtuber who used to live in Alaska. He had to deal with moose and bears. They had to have special trash cans that could not be opened by cunning bears.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I just couldn't imagine living in a place with a mountain lion that could stray in your backyard. They are nice looking creatures though.

I have only seen them in zoos. They will sneak up on you if you look vulnerable, I am told.

I gues that makes sense. I believe they mostly stay in the highest elevations. My grandmother used to tell us about how she had to shoot one once.

Try to give it a bath?? Was that post on the level? Yeah, that's gonna happen!

You can hardly give a domesticated cat a bath, I don't know how they think you'd get a big cat in a bath tub.

I have never seen a mountain lion up close & hope to never encounter one. But close to home a little boy got bit by one so they do exist here! Quite scary.

We have them all over and one Juvenal one walked towards my son-in-law here on our property in daylight and he lifted his arms up and yelled, "go!" and it slowly turned around and walked off. The younger ones are the ones to really watch. They have attacked on trails up here. Always walk in pairs or more and be aware. Be more careful at dawn and dusk. The neighbor down the road said he shot the big one we've had see tracks from. We have a lot of turkeys running around so food is plenty for them but they are still getting goats, chickens etc.

I've heard that you have to seem more intimidating to animals like that. If you seem bigger and scarier they'll leave you alone. I've never seen one up front but my grandparents came from the mountains. My grandmother used to talk about how she had to shoot one once.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Some will leave you alone but the issue is there are those that come up behind or from trees. They are silent and attack the neck area to suffocate.

No. I don't even get close to lions when I go to the zoo

They are behind cages, why would you not get as close as the zoo allows?
