Why does the laptop screen flicker non-stop?

I am getting really annoyed. I am doing stuff on my laptop and then all of a sudden the screen starts flickering non-stop. Sometimes it starts doing that as soon as I turn the laptop on and log in to Windows. I wonder what's causing this to happen. It is very frustrating. I believe it started after my computer automatically updated to a different Windows operating system a few years ago. I figured out that if I plug the laptop into the outlet when it starts flickering that it stops doing it. But I don't want to plug the laptop into the outlet when the batter is pretty full. Anyone else experience this? And how do you deal with it?

I've never experience that before; but I always plug into an outlet when I'm using my laptop because the battery doesn't last long; and I don't want to wear it out. Does it start after you've been on for a while? Could the battery be getting old and worn out? I don't know.

Sometimes it's fine for a while and then all of a sudden starts flickering. But sometimes it starts right away.

@LindaOHio I remember googling it a while ago... But the fact that plugging it in stops the flickering I figured out on my own lol. But not sure how to prevent it from flickering in the first place.

Have you tried googling a flickering screen? Do you have Windows 7 or 10? Maybe there's a patch for 10 if that's what you downloaded several years ago. What about accessing the Windows 10 page on Microsoft and looking for a patch or driver update to fix a flickering screen? That would be the safest.

You can plug a fully charged laptop in a plug, this is not a problem. If the screen flickers it could be a hardware failure, but it can also be caused by an outdated driver. Check to be sure that your laptop is not close to magnetic fields.

@lovebuglena No, I do not think it's a problem of magnetic field. Try to change the graphic resolution.

I use my laptop either on the couch or at the dining room table. I don't think there are any magnetic fields there.

Doesn't seem that way to me. Yes, the plugging in stops it from flickering but I don't want it to start flickering in the first place.

Have no idea why its happening, if it happened to me I would have my kids tell me what is going on and they would fix it.... I love my kids who know a lot more about computers and Ipads that I will ever know. Good luck.

Hahaha. Kids these days are more tech savvy than some adults.

I think it'll be best to let someone take a look at it

@lovebuglena yeah. Prevention is better than cure
