Psychologist told me to put sh*t in my brothers shoes....

Yesterday I had to go to an appointment. The people I see that help me with job search suggested I see a psychologist there often. I already have a psychologist but I have to see this one as well. Which I'm fine with. Yesterday was the second time I've seen her and I vented a lot about some things but also laughed a lot. She had some hilarious remarks to say about how my Aunty has been treating me. And they are remarks I would love to say to her once (or if) I want to speak to her again. I don't know where Magda (psychologist) is from but she has an accent that reminds me of Russian. I could be wrong but there is some accent there which makes the sarcastic remarks she was saying even more funnier. I vented to her how I'm sick of being taken for granted by my brother. I can explain this in full detail another time but for now I will just say that almost 9 years ago my brother bought a dog. But for some reason, I have ended up being the main person to look after his dog. I love his dog so much as I do all animals but it does get frustrating taking the role as the owner when it's meant to be my brother's role. Long story short I told Magda that I threatened to put dog sh*t in my brothers shoes if he wouldn't start looking after his dog properly. Magda says "And did you do that?" I said "No I don't think I could do that. Was just an empty threat....though sometimes I really feel like it." Then Magda, so causally says "So put dog sh*t in his shoes." I started laughing so much because they way she said it was awesome. And she was serious! She explained that when someone keeps doing something to upset or annoy you, that giving them consequences can make them stop. I have never met a psychologist to suggest such a thing. She is just awesome. She felt sympathy as well as feeling angry about the things I am going through so I feel like she really understands where I am coming from and makes me feel that my stress, anger and depression are valid.

Let me throw this back at you; what if your brother goes to the same psychologist - What will happen?

@ihasaquestion lol well I don't know! I'm not perfect but there is nothing on me to say. Any hostility I show towards him is because of him. So if he needs to fix the way I treat him, then he needs to fix himself first.

Kudos to this psychologist. This is exactly what you have to do, he cannot say that you did not warn him before.

@VivaLaDani13 Sometimes we must dare to do unusual things to move on. I intended a "fake" snake just to scare her and pass the message, but finally a real one would not be too bad.

@LadyDuck lol so true! I actually thought of you while in this session because she said things I wasn't expecting and then she reminded me of you. The very first time you suggested I buy my Aunty a snake and say a certain comment to her had me so surprised as well as laughing. Your words and suggestions then this psychologist words and suggestions really took me off guard just like you did that day lol

@LadyDuck lol Oh I knew you meant fake. A real one would scare the crap out of me! OH something else Magda said that had me laughing. You know how my Aunty is "Christian." Magda said that the next time my Aunty mocks me, for me to say "I don't think Jesus would like how you're treating me." I am so going to say that!!!!

I like this psychologist already, just from your short description of your interaction with her. It seems as if she is a no-nonsense type of person. Instead of beating around the bush with psychologist mumbo-jumbo and jargon, she just talks to you like one human being to another. I think that can be very beneficial! Do me a favor...when you finally put that dog sh*t in your brother's shoes, take a picture and send it to me. I know I'll get quite a laugh about it!

@moffittjc haha! ok noted! I probably won't do it any time soon. Actually if anything I'm feeling sorry for him. His dad ( we don't have the same dad ) is very unwell with cancer. If his dad passes, he hasn't got any parents. We have the same mum and she is gone. My brother isn't that close to his dad and he still has my dad as a parent but yeah....feeling sorry for him.

@moffittjc That's exactly how I feel. Like exactly. The one I'm already seeing is good too and I like her but this one I have to see with the job search company just has a different feel and I love it! LOL! I will try! I can't promise because I would be doing it out of rage. Usually ( like almost everyone who gets angry ) actions take place without thinking but hopefully I will think "Bring a camera Danielle to show Jeff!"

@Nevena83 I understand. I'm sorry to know that. If it's something you feel like you need to do, I believe it will be beneficial for you. Please know I am always here too if ever you need to talk. But yeah I think a psychiatrist may be good if you're having some issues. I will always be here to read anything you have to say but sadly I won't have all the answers as I am still struggling myself on how to handle some situations.

If I were you, I won't do that. Instead I will hide the dog from him. I will keep away from him. If he does care for the dog, he would be looking for it. When he will do that, I will talk to him and make commit for his part in taking care for the dog.

@Nakitakona I can not hide what belongs to my brother. There is no way I can do something like that. Talking to him? lol oh my goodness do you know how many talks I and my dad have had with my brother? A LOT. Talking will get my brother to do better for like one day and then he slips back into his old routine. Talking, crying, yelling, demanding or threatening means nothing.
