An ordinary/special day at the beach

For the third day of celebrating Father's Day, my husband and I drove about a hundred miles to Nags Head yesterday. It's a popular beach destination on the Atlantic Ocean with several islands called the outer banks. The weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cold. We drove over the new bridge to Hatteras Island, then walked on the beach for a bit. The water was cold, but wonderful. But the sand was terribly hot. We ate a delicious seafood lunch at one of our favorite places there, Mulligans. Did just a little shopping/looking and just enjoyed taking our time. On the way home, we took a couple of detours, rode by Sommerset Place plantation, then stopped at a seafood market to buy some fresh shrimp. Got that all bagged and put in the freezer this morning. Last night we sat out in the shack until bedtime. It was such an easy, relaxing day. It was both ordinary and special at the same time!

I would say the emphasis is on the special. It sounds to me like you had a wonderful day.

@1creekgirl We visit Carolina Beach at least twice a year - March and October. We also go down to New Bern and stay at the KOA there at least once a year. It's been a long while since we've been to the Outer Banks.

The fresh fried shrimp was divine. My husband ate it and so far it hasn't hurt him, gluten wise. His labs showed no intolerance to gluten, but he had been gluten free for a month so it was possibly a false negative. Who knows? We've decided that if it hurts him, he won't eat it again and if it doesn't, he'll eat it sometimes. We both plan to consume as little gluten as possible just because it's a healthier way to eat.

That sounds like a lovely way to spend the day. We didn't do anything today, it was rainy and ugly.

@1creekgirl We hit them all if I remember correctly. I remember Ocracoke for sure. It was a long time ago.

Nags Head is a wonderful beach location. I visited there along with stopping at Kill Devil Hills to see the Wright Museum. I enjoyed seeing all the lighthouses and the people hang gliding off the sand dunes. That's a place I would visit again. Glad you enjoyed your time there!

It's a good place to vacation and glad you enjoyed your visit. Have you ever been to Myrtle Beach, SC? It's a great place and much more to do than Nags Head.

@1creekgirl As a matter of fact I was there once. Unfortunately, we were just there for part of a day meeting up with relatives who were staying there. It did look like a fun place one I will put on my places to visit again.
