gotta love rhode island. we have some of the weirdest weather changes. there's a saying that goes for a lot of new england states.."don't like the weather?wait a minute". today,it couldn't be truer. when i walked home from work,it was hell sunny..about 80 out. 1 hour after getting home,i was drinking a beer, watching tv.. and i noticed the sky was getting REAL dark out there. uh oh. was it supposed to rain today? then the pings started. F me.it's hailing. peanut size hail.pretty big. that had to have started way up in the clouds..it really had been too hot otherwise. i can't remember last time i saw it hail up here.and certainly not in june. happy solstice,eh?

Hail happens a lot here with freaky storms that turn up out of nowhere. We have gotten used to this kind of thing now. I can remember seeing hail on the grass the size of a pear drop sweet and that was big.

Weird weather has been happening all across the continent the past few years. And it's snowing in Laramie, Wyoming.

Saw hailstone in Austria about 20 years ago that damaged cars and roofs and injured people - it was extremely dangerous but fortunately only lasted a few minutes

Even a short hail storm can leave a lot of damage, for example on the roofs of houses and the top of cars. We had this some years ago. The glaziers and roofers earned 'a golden nose' with the repairs.

Hail storms are not my favorite weather events! We recall severe car damage happening when we had a big storm one year. It was a mess.

Well, let's just hope that it will improve in the next minutes or hours or seconds, who knows?

We had some bad hail here in north Florida about a week ago, but thankfully it didn't hit in the area where I live. This is usually the time of year we'll see a few hail storms every now and then. You're right about it starting way up high in the clouds, because for ice to form in this hot and muggy Florida weather, it's got to be from way up in the atmosphere!
