"You too can be rich, if you work hard enough!"

Hello fellow mylotters, today I was thinking about money and the ways we earn it. There is this widespread notion that no matter who you are, what cards you were dealt from life or what family you were born in, you and anyone you know can become rich, provided you work for it. While hard work is surely one of the few things that could actually get you to success, this topic left a sour taste in my mouth. Is it actually true, or is this just one of those societal jingles that we, sometimes without thinking, use to keep our collective mood up? Perhaps it would be better to be happy with what you can get and invest in your inner wealth? Do we really want everything we want?

The statement is VERY true. It's never about how much money you MAKE, it's about what you do with what you make. I have never made a lot of money, but I HAVE a lot of money. How did I do it? I live below my means, save and invest wisely, and spend wisely as well. It takes time. But in the end it is worth it, and eventually you find yourself living more on the interest and dividends than your paycheck, and that's a VERY comfortable spot to be in. But if you only earn wages and never save and invest, you will never get ahead. It just doesn't work that way.

Well the saying goes, "money can't buy you happiness". While this might be true but being dirt poor I bet makes you pretty sad. I'm alright with where I am. I am certainly far from being rich but I can afford what I need and I'm pretty happy with where I am in life.

working hard can in some instances make us rich but then there are lots of times that there is not much opportunity where we can work hard and be successful. We can't always find a high a paying job or good money making business. with tough competition out there that also lower the chance to get opportunities. although working hard is just one factor but without other factors like luck and opportunities, working hard would not give us that success or riches

I am contented with what I have, although hard work is also important in order to earn and save for rainy days.

I don't think it's true. Some people work very hard and they aren't rich.

Sometimes I do think wealth is due to pure dumb luck too. I agree I think we could all worry about our happiness more than making an extreme amount of money.

I think that becoming rich takes a lot of hard work, luck and a lot of discipline to achieve your goals.

I don't think it's entirely true, although hard work plays an important part. Sometimes being in the right place, or knowing the right people, also helps. And more often than not, luck plays a big part. I used to chase money trying to get rich. Then I realized that money is not the most important thing in life. Family, friends and loved ones are. I now cherish time and experiences with my loved ones over the desire for money.

@Emeraude I would love to be rich so would not have to worry about money and we could buy a place for us and I could donate to causes or charities I believe in. I am not so have to rent and figure out how to make money.

Being rich and successful can mean a lot differently with every people. It will also depend if they will choose wants over needs or the way around.
