Almost $100 to get rid of an old TV

I found online that Best Buy (electronics store) can haul away a TV. If you buy a new one they will take the old one away for $19.99. But if you do not buy a new TV and want them to haul away your old one you will have to pay $99.99. Wow! That is a lot of money to get rid of a TV. Of course, my TV is without the frame. Hubby decided to take it apart. Now my TV has the cathode-ray tube sticking out of it, all exposed. Even if I cave in and pay the high price to take my TV away I don't even know if they will take it because it's frameless and the cathode-ray tube is sticking out, which is not safe. The TV isn't even mine. It's my parent's old TV that we had in this house when we lived here before. They never got rid of it. So technically, if I have to pay someone to take it away my parents should be the ones to pay for it and not me. It is only fair.

It would be nice if we had that here in NYC. Doesn't seem to be the case. I found a place where I can bring the TV but it has to be brought there. They don't do pickups.

We have drop-off days scheduled around here at the Fairgrounds. A couple of times a year you can drop off electronics and TVs. A cathode ray will cost $10 to drop off. Have you tried calling your local dump?

We had an electronics disposal event nearby but it was on a Saturday when my husband works. Plus, TV heavy so we can't drop it off. It has to be picked up. Unless we can get someone to help hubby load it into our SUV. But I am not comfortable having the TV in the SUV with that cathode-ray tube sticking out while we are driving.

@lovebuglena Yeah, those old buggers can be really heavy. Have you checked in the Yellow Pages? Some people will come and pick up your trash.

I can't wait to get rid of it. Have to figure out how. Don't really want to spend that much money.

I hope you're able to get rid of it. $100 seems a lot to pay.

Might as well keep breaking down the pieces. Isn't there a city place that takes electronics for free?

You have to bring it over there. TV is heavy. And I don't even know if it's free or not. But probably is.

I believe Best Buy will do this with computers too.

Probably. I don't have any computers to get rid of though.
