Are those long johns dry yet?

While we were travelling in Ireland, France and Austria, I was always on the lookout for something a bit different or something that I thought would interest my friends on myLot. I was as bad as Vince, taking my camera with me everywhere but I’m glad I did. I’m still going through my photos and every now and then I come across one that I think should be shared. I thought you might like this shot of someone drying their long johns in the window. They have no fly-wire screens and I guess there would be a good wind flow through the window. We had radiators on the house-boat and when they were being used to heat the area, I’d put our smalls on the radiators. They dried surprisingly quickly.

This is interesting but where I live, when its too cold outside, we hang some on the windows.

When we were travelling in the motor-home I used to put the socks on the dashboard of the vehicle.

We had radiators in Monte-Carlo, great to dry small things quickly in winter, during spring and summer they were not in use.

@JudyEv It was really great in winter.

The radiator was great for drying small things and for warming our towels before we had a shower.

Goodness that does bring back a memory or two there. I did not think that anyone used long johns anymore. Maybe he has no choice but to dry his most intimate stuff in the window. If he had a washing line he could put them out there say behind a bed sheet or two just a hint for whomsoever he might be.

@JudyEv If its hot enough you can hide all those kind of things with bed sheets and stuff it is funny to me at least that men still wear them.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Vince bought and wore a pair in Tasmania as it was bitterly cold there. He hasn't worn them since.

It seems a bit funny but perhaps things dry really well in the open window.

You are very observant. I probably would have walked by this and never noticed it up so high. It's a great photo, though.

can you imagine the conversation those long johns provoked over the years? Where are my long johns? husband In the window, wife so the neighbors can see them? husband yes.. wife My wife would say in the hamper where you left them!

Wow, I am really impressed. You put your clothes in the hamper? Don't just dump them on the floor? Go to the top of the class and get a gold star! (haha - I'm exaggerating a little. Vince puts his stuff in the hamper too - mostly)

@DocAndersen Vince cooks but I always say he took it up in self-defence. I don't see how he can possibly say he finds cooking relaxing but he says it is. I clean up after him and do everything else. We muddle along quite well.

@JudyEv i was told - no hamper no wash! we split duties years ago. I used to do the laundry but my wife's contention was that everything pink was not her goal. So I started cooking, she does the laundry!

Your good eye paid off. That is an interesting photo. I guess if you live above a Hers and His hair salon you may not have access to a clothes dryer, so you have to do what you have to do.

@judyev Such a good photograph of such a poor, dilapidated scene. At least the long johns are washed. Our next door neighbours back home wear very brightly underwear and when they hang it out on the line in the garden and the wind blows they look like butterflies.

That photo is a real prize. It's always good to have the camera ready. You never know what you're going to find that is photo worthy. I remember radiators growing up. We would put clothes on them too and found they dried fast. A little stiff, but they were dry.

@JudyEv I have heard of people using radiators to dry things. I have something that I put on my porch to dry my clothes in summer. In winter I dry them on it inside because not sure how the weather will be. That is cool and I love your title. Thanks for sharing.
