6.4 Earthquake Out Of Seerles Valley, CA

Mojave, California
July 4, 2019 1:15pm CST
This Was No Wimpy one. The quakes epicenter is about 142 miles north of where I live, close to Fort Irwin and near Death Valley. I do not think we felt that one, but do think we felt one of the after shocks. A 4.7 out of Ridgecrest which is a bit closer to us. The time matches up better is why I say that, the 6.4 was 42 minutes when I checked and the one I think we felt the 4.7 out of Ridgecrest matched much closer as I waited about 15 minutes because knew would take some time to update. All I know is got Brooklyn and I out of bed. I could tell it was probably pretty far, but seemed like it was going to be a decent size. I do not know any reports of damage or if anyone was hurt, I just checked online.

Hope everything is okay. I’m watching KTLA online and they’re showing videos of pools having whitecaps in them....

@Four Walls All is good here and cool, I always wanted to be in a pool during a big quake. Its a wave pool I tell you.

@JohnRoberts — yep, local stations tend to stream breaking news online. How do you think I watch all these tornado coverage reports?

KTLA online? That's a local station. At first there were reports that SoCal had been invaded by crazed Louisvillians that caused the earth to shake but that was false.

I felt the rolling build up. That means distance. A sudden jolting and jerking is quicker or means a big one like Northridge. It livens things up here in SoCal.

Yeah, certain ones scare me more than others. The quicker jerking is the one ones that make me jump up. I have felt some that can start off like the cooler riding a wave type deal, but as you say they build up to where they can get big. Brooklyn usually sleeps right through them and she jumped up also.

I was thinking you are probably the closest to there from the SoCal folks here. We felt a long rolling here - we were in the middle of breakfast. It's been a while since we've felt any earthquakes. Glad all is ok out your way!

@crossbones27 Were/are you feeling the aftershocks out there? We haven't felt any. I guess they say when it's rolling you are far enough from the epicenter . . . it's the up and down stomping one you gotta watch out for. It was all over the news yesterday!

@much2say I just felt the one, the 4.7 one, funny how we felt that but not the big one, if we did, I was asleep, but sister said she did not feel that one and she was up also and Brooklyn who jumped up with me did not feel the 6.4 one.

Yeah, it is a size where it can do some pretty good damage.

@JustBhem Just what @fourwalls said, they showed peoples's pools with white cap waves in them from the shaking. I have not heard anything else, but have not been able to really follow it yet.

I hope every one is okay, That area is not heavily populated so damage should be minimal. (I hope)

Yeah Bakersfeild too, but probably a good bit of distance where it was not to bad, but I did not do the distances for those places. I was thinking Maybe Fort Irwin received the worst of it, but again did not do the distance just from map it looked to closest populated area outside Ridgecrest.
