It's too quiet when you can hear the electric clock ticking?

Reads like a title to a horror novel, doesn't it? That's what it is like at my house right now. The a/c isn't running, the fridge isn't running, and the only sounds I hear are my fingers striking the keyboard and the battery operated clock over my shoulder ticking away the second of my summer. The ticks of the clock sound like they're saying, "GO! WRITE! GO! WRITE!" I have written some today. My mind was distracted by the septic tank trouble this morning and my wife's car battery needing to be replaced. Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore. I had to get out. I had to go. Go to the local AutoZone store and get a new battery that is. I was very lucky the car started. It may have been the last crank the old battery had in it. It got me to the store though. I swapped out the batteries right there in the parking lot. The helpful store associate informed me that he could change the battery for me at no charge. It is part of their service. I earned a smile when I told him, "Son, sometimes a man's just gotta do what a man's gotta do. Besides," I added, "my wife will be impressed that I did it on my own. It's good to remind her once in a while that I'm not just a pretty face." The young man laughed and told me he'd be right inside if I needed any help. I didn't but appreciated the gesture. Now, I'm back home listening to rumbles of thunder and hoping the portend rain. How is your Monday shaping up?

Same here and I love the silence. I can hear the birds outside.

I have been hearing thunder not far off and that quieted the birds for a while, but they are back now.

@CarolDM It's not raining over us yet, but I could probably throw a rock north and it would land in the rain. My poor grass is so dry.

The fridge was working. The compressor wasn't running at that moment, making the house all the quieter.

A battery is pretty heavy, but I replaced the one of our car in the past.

I find it odd that car battery technology hasn't progressed much in decades. We still use the same basic wet-cell battery our grandparents used in their cars before WWII.

@LadyDuck I didn't realize that. Is your car a hybrid?

@DWDavis Our car uses a dry cell battery, most of cars here now use dry cell batteries.

Sometimes, when something is preying on your mind, it's best just to give in and get the thing done. Nice of the young man to offer to help.

He was eager to help. The store wasn't very busy. He came out to check on me 2 or 3 times during the 10 minutes it took me to swap out the battery. I assured him that I had lots of experience doing such work. Back in the day before everything in the car was hooked to a computer chip, I used to do a lot of my own maintenance.

@JudyEv I recognize learnt as the Imperial spelling of the word we backwoods Americans spell learned.

@DWDavis He might have been really keen to do it for you. Maybe it's a new skill he has learnt. Give him a few years and maybe he won't be so keen. (learnt is not a spelling error in Australia - just in case you're wondering) lol I'm on another site where they keep correcting me.

Monday started with a trip to the dentist. Just a cleaning but still not the most fun way to start a new week.

I didn't mind visits to my old dentist. We were friends and would spend a little time catching up while the hygienist cleaned my teeth. He retired and a bigger outfit bought the practice and now I don't know who my hygienist or my dentist will be when I go in. It's like factory dentistry.

@DWDavis I see the same hygienist ever time but she's not chatty...and my dentist sings with the radio.

I wonder if Advance does that too? Sometimes it is very quiet in here as well..but it doesn't bother me much.

He was the type of store associate who makes you glad you chose that store. In chatting with him, I learned we'd both taken classes at the same college. Of course, I took my classes many years before he did.

I've been at the VA all day. Had one appointment and ended up taking care of a bunch of stuff after. Very busy.

It is indeed very quiet when I can hear that sound. I don“t like to hear the sound of the ticking clock.
