Have you traveled in a group?

London, England

As you have read on some of my posts that I will be going to London with my relatives. Two of my relatives are going with me with their respective family members. My better half will not accompany with me as it would be too much walking for him. Anyway, it is only for a week. Yesterday we have video chatted in order to talk about our travel and what kind of things and places we have to visit. We have 3 small children with us and so we have to consider what we can show them. We have decided last night to book the travel card instead of the oyster card for the transportation in London and we have booked already online. This evening, we have to talk again about the London Pass that we are going to buy online. We have to agree which sightseeing tours and places to visit on the same days when we are there. I hope our short vacation will be smooth.Well, let see. Have you traveled in a group or with your family abroad? There are lots of things to consider as we have different interest and of different age. The photo is my second travel in London in the 80s. Just searched this photo from my old photo album. Thanks for reading. Have a great day everyone.

We never traveled in groups, there are too many restrictions and you are obliged what the agencies decide to show you. Even without the Internet I had free numbers to book the hotels around the world and I asked tourist materials at the local Consulates. It has never been a problem.

@thelme55 I always did the same and we wrote to the tourist offices of the countries we wanted to visit to know what to see and which facilities there were to travel there. We went several times to London in the 70s and 80s and never even needed a travel agency.

@LadyDuck We have not needed an agency for our travel to London. We did all that we have to do. We researched first before organizing our travel.

I agree with you @LadyDuck. There has never been a problem with us when traveling before the internet time. We always bought books to read before our travel and went to the tourists' information center to get some flyers and other tourists materials for us to use.

I've been to London several times with groups of pupils. There is a lot to organise and the responsibility is great but I've always enjoyed it. The good thing was that the pupils were all of age. I wouldn't have gone with younger ones.

I have been to London a few times but this is the first time I will travel with 3 small kids @MALUSE. I think it is okay as the kids have traveled already to the Philippines which is farther than going to London. We will be going to parks which I love to go and toy shops.

in the past, it was the travel agencies that organized these things. now, because of the internet, people can do their own research, have group discussions in real time then buy and book everything they need online.

We have organized our own travel everywhere we go @hereandthere. We only bought tickets at the travel agency. Nowadays, it is easy because of the internet.

When you do get here I hope that the weather is very kind to you. I would warn you that London is so much busier now since you were last here and please guard your purse very well there are a lot of pickpockets here now. I would hate to travel with many members of my family. My sister keeps asking me to go on holiday with them. It would be my worst holiday ever I can assure you! So it will never happen. Have a wonderful time here!

@garymarsh6 A worthwhile time would be the natural history museum. Lots of interesting stuff to keep the kids amused and it is free!

Not so near @Janet357. London is more or less 3 hours from Rotterdam The Netherlands by EuroStar train. An about an hour and 15 minutes to Heathrow airport by plane from Germany.

It can be difficult travelling in a group such as you have described. I hope you manage to find things to enjoy that suit everyone. I don't really have any suggestions.

@thelme55 I think being free to split up occasionally is a good idea. That way, no-one feels they have been deprived of doing what they personally want to do.

Yes, it can be @JudyEv. We have talked already that we sometimes go in separate ways and it is okay. Some of us want to go to a war museum and we 3 women want to go some shopping after we have used our London Pass ticket for 3 days. Thank you.

My late mother used to hang out with a group of friends and they decided to go to Cypress Gardens. It's a place in Florida. All the ladies were age 50 or over. I was about 15 but I begged her to let me go with them. She said there wasn't going to be anybody my age. I said I didn't care. I wanted to see those gardens and those ladies dressed like Southern Belles. I went. I had a great time!

That sounds a great memory @cmoneyspinner. Not all young girls want to go with their mothers and her older friends outing. It must be a wonderful garden to visit.
