Paint Colors for Inside the House

MyLot friends who have been following me know the nightmare going on with getting my mom back in her house. My brother and his girlfriend were holding out on letting my mom move back into her OWN home. They wanted to paint several rooms in colors THEY picked out. They bought them and they are sitting in the room that is to be painted. As stated yesterday, mom's house was signed off on back on June 7, 2019 and nothing was done to get this work done. My mom doesn't want the rooms painted. She wants to leave the whole house a neutral color. I told her no problem. They can take the paint back, get refund or gift card and if not, we will find a use for it or sell it out right. These are the colors they picked out: Kitchen: Yellow (Eww, 70's and outdated) Hall/Guest Bathroom: Tomato (WTH?) Living Room: Forest Green (Ummm NO.) Master Bathroom: Papaya (Don't think so) Guest Bedroom: Blue (This one was okay) Den: A Neural Gray (Nice but too dark for dark flooring and I don't like all the different colors throughout the house.) It certainly appears to me that they chose paint colors according to their own liking and not my mothers. In fact, they never asked her what she preferred. What do you think of all these colors? The swatch is not exact colors, just something I found on Pixaby that was close. Photo: Pixaby

If I were you, I prefer neutral colors.

It's my mom's house and her decision. That is what she chose, to leave it all off-white. I agree with her.

I like different colors according to what the room is used for. Some colors are relaxing and work great in bedrooms. While other colors energize.

@wolfgirl569 Exactly. She has a big trust issue now and you really can't blame her after what they have done.

I agree but this tomato is dark and the flooring is also dark. Same with the green for the living room. Then she has a grey mixed with dark brown in the den. All of it together just seems a bit wild. And like I said earlier, it was HER wants and not my moms.

@kareng That is the main thing. Your mom should have been asked.

I tend to like several colors, but understand people who want something neutral through out. I need to get some colors selected and take care of the walls here. I would only want bright or intense colors as accents or on one wall at most. It is her house and needs to be in her personal style.

That is what I told her. She could leave it all one color or paint with colors they chose or choose her own. She wanted it all the same so easy enough. It' is done.

oh, can't tell ya my thoughts'n such, hon. i'd be banned from mylot! e'en if'n ya can't get a refund 'r sell 'em, ya could donate 'em to habitat fer humanity 'r some art program there locally. i'm certain they'd be 'ppreciative 'f such 'n put those colors to good use. neutral colors'd be calmin', accent with colorful pillows 'n other objects if'n yer sweet momma desires.

Your thoughts are probably running much like mine at this point. This girl better never show her face around me again. My girls are all ready to smack her too.

It's your Mum's house. She should be the one choosing whether to have rooms painted or not.

That is what I told her. She wants to leave it as it is. One-color throughout the house. So it stays the way it is. This also speeds up her getting back in the house.

Some color is nice; but I don't like the colors that they chose; and besides, it should be your mother's choice.

I agree. The colors remind me of the 70's flower power revolution. LOL.

I like white bathrooms so I can play with color in the rugs and shower curtains, change anytime. I like the living room white just because so its bright and full of light. However, I have the guest room deep purple. The office is a teal and in the daylight it looks more toward the blue and at night it looks more toward the green, I am wanting to paint it, its been 5 years so its due. My kitchen is a very pale gray but I also have white cabinets so its bright and happy.

She has white cabinets too. Not sure how a bright yellow will work in there. I'm not very fond of yellow, to begin with. I like her decision, less work and we can start moving her back in as soon as this storm moves in and out. Are you getting any rain from it yet over your way?

The blue was the best color of all that they chose. My mom is going to keep all the walls the same color though so it will be uniform all the way through the house. I'm all for this as we can start moving her back in as soon as the storm gets out of the way early next week.
