Incompetence On A Grand Scale

Okay, I just got off the phone with Home Depot. You may or may not have read about the ongoing saga of the air conditioner. It was due to arrive on July 5th, I was charged for it on July 1. After waiting on hold for 10 minutes I was told that it was delivered to my local store on July 8th but when they opened the box they found out that it wasn't my air condition but rather a dehumidifier. They did not feel the need to let me know about the error. But as it seems, they will now cancel my order and I will have my refund in 3-5 days. The model that I ordered is now out of stock. I can't help wondering how long it would have taken them to notify me about this major snafu if I had not taken the initiative and called them? They have just guaranteed that I will not be doing business with them in the future. What is wrong with businesses these days that they let 3 days go by without letting me know what is happening and I have to wonder when they would have given me my refund?

It seems to be happening with more and more businesses here in our country these days. Even ones tried and true for many years are failing to do their service now. I know I had a really bad time and lost money on a couple last few years. Like Amazon and Western airline.

@BelleStarr I don't blame you. I had good luck with Amazon for 5 or so years. Then ordered a laptop 8 yrs ago from a seller on their site. Got it and it was defective. Tried to make it work even my son and daughter tried. I was in AZ back then. I informed Amazon and the seller said through them. return it and I could get back my money. Amazon knew all that went on. I returned it Waited for money back over a month. never got it. They kept ( the seller) saying they never got it. I spent hours on the phone in conference with Amazon, the UPS guy, and the seller. when the ups guy said it was signed for, the seller said "oh let me check and get back to you. It might have went to our recieving department." He never got back and Amazon said they could not cover my 450 dollars because that seller was not in the coverage? crazy. I had thought their policy was to cover anything on their site So never got my money back and seen him continue to sell on the site even with bad reviews coming in. I got so frustrated I dropped Amazon and stopped watching his profile or trying to contact him after a year of it upsetting me. Sorry this is so long

@bunnybon7 I would never buy a computer from a vendor, I get mine at Best Buy or directly from Dell or QVC. I make sure that what I buy from Amazon is through them, not a vendor. I don't trust anyone out there. Don't worry about it being long, I can see you are frustrated and I don't blame you. I would have paid with a credit card and then you could get the company to fight the battle for you. They will withhold payment in a case like this.

it's everywhere.part of the problem is people aren't getting paid enough to care. long hours doing the bare minimum. i've been waiting 4 days for them to refill my husband's diabetes medicine.and they're getting a nasty reminder today when they open.

Home Depot though is one of the better employers, my sister in law works for them and they treat their employees quite well.

What are a few customers to such big companies that they should care? Maybe you should send a letter to the company and explain the lack of good service?

The businesses are full of lazy, incompetent people, that is hat is wrong. Nobody has taught them they are in business because of the customer. No customer, no job. I am sorry to hear about this trouble, but I am not surprised. What a pain

It's a good thing you grandson was able to fix you air conditioned. Customer service just isn't the same as it used to be. As a matter of fact, I am coming to believe that there is no such thing anymore.

Qvc is quite excellent and so is Kohls. I have also had great luck with Amazon the few times I have needed to use it, But in general yes, customer service is pretty bad.

Customer service is something that runs in cycles. Companies recognize it's importance they focus on it the accountants say look how much extra that costs, they swing the other way. It kinda stinks. When I ran my business, I got more referrals simply because I would take the extra step to make certain that people were happy with their purchases. Such a simple thing to do and after a year, I often had more business than I could handle.

@BelleStarr This is true.I think the issue is when the accountants get involved. They decide that hey, that extra bit of effort is costing you this. You need to cut costs. Or the Marketing department says, why the heck are we giving that service away for free. there is money to be made here. Good old fashion service is what sells. People remember and they come back for more.

i'd feared somethin' like that amiss, hon. so glad ya finally called 'em! i would'a been askin' fer some interest'n my funds - not that they'd do such, but jest to let 'em know. i'd 'lso be contactin' their district manager 'n give 'em a what fer, too. i'd a similar 'xperience with lowe's this past january. couldn't get wood pellets fer the stove here (they'd all been re-routed north due to the horrid cold) 'n found 2 pallets 't the lowe's 'n amarillo, tx. they'd not ship 'em to our local store. i pre-paid fer 'em 'n they swore they'd put a "sold" sign'n both (this 'twas a tuesday 'n i couldn't get there 'til saturday). i called that morn to 'nsure they'd my 2 pallets ('twas 235 miles round trip) 'n they 'ssured me such'd be so. drove all that way'n 65mph winds to fetch 'em. got there 'n the gal 't customer service said, "yes ma'am, they are here and marked, just pull your truck around to the garden center and they will load them for you." we got 'round there'n the folks'd no idea - all but 40 bags 'd been sold (out'ta 100). then i'd the need to go back to the front'n demand a refund.... gave 'em the what fer, the manager refused to come outta hidin'. i reported all to lowe's headquarters. nope, we didn't make 't through our prolonged winter with jest those 40 bags... that bein' said, they might'a figured out their err come time they did their quarterly book work, but e'en that'd be suspect..
