I was in a flood warning!

Last week I was in Kagoshima, Kyushu. On Wednesday there was a huge amount of rain and the whole city was put on evacuation orders because of potential landslides and flooding. Fortunately I was staying on the fifth floor in a flat area that drains into the ocean. Most people in the city proper did not evacuate but many living near rivers and hills did. One of the evacuation centers (elementary school) flooded and they had to move it across the way to a middle school that was on higher ground. It was exciting for sure. Everything closed, including the large department stores and grocery stores. Fortunately I had thought ahead and gotten two days worth of food before things shut down. I'm glad I think kind of like a prepper (but not so extreme). The highways, including one that leads to the airport, were closed for a few days because of landslides, which I could see when I went to the airport two days ago. Have you had flooding near you?
