What I Learned From Him

Four days back one of our relatives suddenly came to stay with us.A tall,soft spoken gentleman I had never seen him before.My mother told me he had come here last time in 1992 when I was a kid.
Yesterday he left for his town .He had come here only to see my parents.
Many of our elderly neighbours know him and some of them are his friends.
One thing I noticed in his character is that he is a very patient listener. He shows interest in what others say and never interrupts them.I saw him attentively listening to others maintaining eye contact with them.He speaks only when others stop talking.Perhaps that's the reason why he is so popular here among his friends and acquaintances.
I would like to say,I am impressed.I will try to develop this quality in myself.

@Hannihar Yes, he is a good man - polite,patient and sensitive.I noticed he is very careful about selection of words.He never uses words that may hurt others.

Yes, I am a good listener. In my group of friends I am usually the person that people tell about their problems. I like listening to people's stories, and people know that that can call me or visit me if they need to talk about something.

Yes, I like to listen and help people if I can Sometimes listening is all that I can do, because some of my friends' problems are complicated. There are no easy solutions, but sometimes it still helps to talk about it.

@Porcospino That's great.You are a good listener which means you are not self-centered and you care for others.I highly appreciate you for it.So far as I'm concerned,I admit I don't have much patience.I do everything I can to help others,but lose patience when someone keeps talking and does not listen to me.

@Porcospino You are absolutely right.You listen to everyone who wants you to solve their problems.You have a noble quality.You want to help them,but you become helpless if their problems are complicated .Some problems don't have easy solutions.Still you patiently listen to them and this relieves them of pain,burden or stress whatever you call it to some extent.

It's culture, do not fall to others in the word, while they are talking. I do not do it and I do not like it even when I hear others do it. Yes, I can say for myself that I'm a good listener

@LowRiderX I lose patience when the speakers keeps talking for too long. They don't come to the point and keep talking nonsense.

Not as good as I would like. But I suppose it depends on the situation too. If someone is in need, I can shut down my need to speak and listen. Only speaking where appropriate and in response to questions.
