With summer comes bees looking for nectar. If you were ever stung I'm sure you remember how painful it was. I certainly do! Do you know the most painful place to be stung by a bee? National Geographic reports did a study to determine the most painful spots to be stung by honey bees. 25 locations were tested and all unsurprisingly induced pain. But some areas were more painful. The least painful spots were the skull, upper arm, and the tip of the middle toe. Justin Smith, who conducted the test on himself, used a scale of one to ten according to National Geographic. Smith had fives stings a day and stung himself three separate times on each of the different body locations. Ratings were given to most to least painful areas. Of course this is strictly a subjective test and the results may not be the same for everyone. But I was curious to know anyway what the researcher came up with. Interesting that one of the least painful sting areas was the skull giving new meaning to being "hard headed." Now if you were to give an educated guess, what body parts would you determine to be the most painful? One obvious spot was the private male area (ouch)!!! Can you guess what other most painful body areas were found in this study? You won't get stung by guessing. I'll provide those Correct answers to those who guess Source- Reader's Digest Photo- survivalmystery.com

Yes, the facial area is definitely a serious area do to swelling. The two other most painful areas: nostril, upper lip according to the study. I believe the eyes have to be right up there.

It looks like the subject was able to tolerate the pain it produces since he allowed to be stung 25x. I remember I was stung in my finger once or twice before and I would not like to be stung again by them. My finger got swollen for several days and I could not move or bend it anymore. It took time before it healed back to normal again.

I am sure each person has a different reaction to bee stings, absolutely. Especially when it comes to swelling. Yes, quite a lot of bee stings what some people will do for science The two other most painful areas: nostril, upper lip according to the study.

@dgobucks226 The face is usually the most painful area. I stay away from wasps and hornets, those are the most dangerous.

Anywhere that I have been stung was painful and seemed to throb forever. I'm allergic and have avoided being bit for a good many years.

I imagine being allergic really intensifies the pain.

I don't get stung by bees very often and usually on the fingers. They're not too bad. Hornets and wasps are a different story. They usually get me on the arms and they are way more painful. As for the most painful spots (minus the obvious one you named) and the tip of the toe, which I would have guessed would make the most painful list) I'm going to say the palm, the tips of the fingers---The thumb, if listed separately, might rank pretty high---, the ears (Which I wouldn't guess but if the tip of a toe is one of the least painful, maybe the ears make the most painful list), For women, the nipples and maybe even for men---I guess since the researcher only did tests on himself, female nipples can't be on the list but I'm guessing them, anyway---and the ankles (Just because when flies bite them, they are very painful, so I'm guessing that bee stings are, too).

You make some good points I am inclined to agree with you on. Flies do hurt when they bite your ankles. And hornet stings are extremely painful. As for this study the two other most painful areas: nostril, upper lip. I would even put your eyes on the list. Facial areas can really swell up. I imagine people swell and react to stings at different levels.

@dgobucks226 I hate bees. I accidentally sat on a bee once and got stung by one too. I hate them with a passion.

I'm afraid of wasps. They can sting you multiple times and will aggressively chase you if disturbed.
