The spider species Argiope aurantia, commonly known as Black and Yellow Garden Spider is seen in my yard often. I captured a photo of this spider sac on my fence. Babies are growing inside and will hatch soon. They are called SPIDERLINGS!
The male spider seeks out the female in the web and after mating he dies. She creates a brownish sac (in my photo) that will contain an average of 50-100 eggs inside.
The babies actually hatch in the fall and remain in the sac and lay dormant until spring when they emerge. Protecting her and her babies is good for your garden. If you see one of these spiders or her egg sac – do not disturb. They are considered good spiders. Not dangerous at all.

I know many are afraid of spiders. They are not my favorite and I do not like them to get on me. But I watch them from a distance and do not bother the black and yellow garden spider. I will post photos of the spider later.
Any Arachnophobia members out there! Afraid of spiders?

@DocAndersen I don’t blame her. They have to stay outside!

@CarolDM I wanted to get a pet spider. The boss of the house said NO.

If they stay outside I leave them alone.

i've a gazillion diff'rent sorts 'f spiders all 'bout here. some that're prone to puttin' a web right by the back door jest so's ya can walk 'nto such first thingy'n the morn, lol. i let the hubs've that honor...
'twas tortured with spiders's a young'un by my dad 'n granddad back'n the hills. so've feared 'em e'ery since. i do not bother those outdoors if'n such can be helped 's they'd not be there if'n they'd not a food source. the same can be said 'ndoors, but i've lil tolerance, though most oft catch'n release. 'nless they jest pop out from nowhere's 'n run 'cross me....i smack 'em 'fore i e'en think!

@CarolDM 'tis due to all those danged vines. they'd be critter havens 'f all sorts. i've some tarantulas out'n the pasture, but they steer clear 'f me. we'd'n "incident" some years back 'n i think 't warned the others 'n they've passed such info down the generations, lol.
'round here we've brown recluse 'n black widows. don't seem 'em oft, thankfully. don't wish to tangle with either.

I hope it was good for the male spider. He only got one shot.
