It is not always a good idea to adopt.

All my life I have been wondering whether we should adopt a child if we have the means. I asked myself today, while I was watching the movie (Lion) and I had answered it before, after listening to experiences of other people. I have a friend who adopted 2 children, a girl and a boy. Both were adopted when they were babies so there was no apparent reminder of another life. Yet, the boy, which came to their lives when he was 4 months old, has enough issues all the time so as to need always a psychologist. He also had school problems all through his school life. What do you think about this, friends? Would you adopt a child? Have you adopted a child? What is your experience?

My sister and brother in law adopted a child that belonged to my sister's daughter who lives in Texas. Despite having special needs, he seems to be okay. Now as of any ideas of adoptions outside of the family, the answer is no.

This is a tough one. Maybe there is an inherited gene towards mental problems even if the upbringing is really good. I haven't adopted a child but I have two adopted cousins. One had problems but the other didn't.

Same with my friend. Maybe it would have been the same with a biological child. But then, we never know.

I have talked about adoption with my fiancé. If we cannot have children personally, or alternatives - we may would like to adopt. However this topic is uncertain.

@infatuatedbby In my experience, it is much better to be a grandmother than to be a mother

My family adopted a baby boy. it happens that he needs us. At some point, he was a problem child during his childhood years. Luckily, he turned to a new leaf as he became a teenager.

Children are not as easy to raise as we think when we are young.

My aunt couldn't have children due to complications and adopted two children and they are super good with her. They turned 7 and the other 9 and are very good kids

I basically adopted and raised my two nieces with my mom, we we're given full legal custodianship of them, it had alot of difficulties because they knew full well why they we're with us and that there mother was a addict and there father in prison.... no matter how much i did i was still Uncle so it hurts when the eldest now 18 no longer cares for my opinion it feels like a knife in my chest....

I´m sad this happened. I hope that, even if her relation with you is not good, she will take good tare of herself.

I'm an adoptive parent. It is hard because she came at age 7 and has remaining emotional problems, which affect her marriage. However, somebody needs to take care of these kids and I believe that I did the right thing. We have a good relationship and I have grandkids!
